Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the closed captions come on as default on all channels. I have verified that the global closed captions setting is off in the Roku (Settings -> Captions) . I don't see any options within the client to turn on or off. Maybe I missed it somewhere. It is just annoying. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

I have the old Roku 2 - 4210X (still working perfectly) with v.10.0.0 build 4209-04

Thanks

During a video if you hit the * can you turn them off?  If not there are several posts of the Roku forum which do complain about this issue even for the subscription services you might need to see what other users offer.

"*" does display some info during video, but there is no option for closed captions. Will look around forums.

Thank You!

What options are there?  Perhaps these olders devices have differences.  I  am planning an update in a couple of weeks.  I am waiting for Roku users to upgrade to 5.2.1 as a minum first and I might consider a version that doesn't support subtitles.

Do recordings since mp4 transcoding is already recommended make sure that you don't copy the closed captioning.

Also if you turn off direct play does live tv show the captioning?

It is a live TV feed. I do see the "Configure NextPVR Server" with 5 options when pressing *
. Direct Play: True ( I did change it to False, but it didn't help)
. Return to "<IP/NextPVR>"
. Scan Local Network
. Manual Entry
.Exit

Thanks

No I said to click * during video playback, you should get a Roku screen.

Actually it doesn't show anything, unless I "long-press" the * which I get the "Configure NextPVR Server"

Thanks

I already had a version that checked the global setting but I may not have released it. Hopefully today's channel update fixes things for you.
