Hi. I am an OLD guy, I was a CTO 20 years ago - so - I really appreciate the work that has gone into this NextPVR. It took me a few days to get from V4 to V5, but I got there. Runs great - finally.

BUT  . . . I do have a minor problem. I see that in the web version settings, there appears to be an option to do an auto transcode of the resulting .ts file into .mp4. The resulting file is big, but it cannot be played. There seems to be something missing in the result.

I set preferred streaming profile to default.
Video encoder to CPU.
Recording Auto Transcode - set to 1080p (.mp4)

When the recording ends, the browser runs quite a long time, and a large .mp4 file results. Smaller than the .ts file. BUT it will not play. I deleted all the results, realize now I should have kept one and looked at attributes. I'll make another one and come back in a bit.

Thanks. Amazing amount of work went into this thing.

It is not using smart transcoding so 1080p could indeed be bigger then the source. Attach you zipped logs from settings and we can have a look

If you don't like profiles, you can also create your own and run a PostProcessing script

I don't feel old, but I've been retired from IT for almost 6 years. Where does the time go?

As the great Gilda Radner would say - NEVER MIND. I started up a recording of the late show - and I just left it overnight. When I looked this morning the late show .mp4 recording is done - it is perfect - and the .ts recording is gone.
I THINK I simply did not wait long enough. I bought this monstrous Dell machine over 10 years ago - I guess it is no longer fast enough! When I try to watch live TV using the WEB version, it reports that the server is not fast enough. It works fine in the desktop version.

Thanks for the offer to help. As to retirement - it's more interesting. I was CTO for IVANS for a few years. Research, latest technology, XML, XSLT - we were doing standards for the insurance industry. I thought we might finally come up with a universal data exchange and conversion tool. So . . I decided to investigate the other problems in the human family. I studied sociology, economics, psychology, and now neuroscience. Traveled to asia, africa, central america, parts of Europe. It's an amazing world full of amazing people. And VERY FEW of us are ever "rationale" - we are feeling, loving, responding, gut intuition based species. Drives me crazy, but we are what we are.

ONE more question - I can make this a new question as no one is looking at this one:
I uninstalled V4 - figured why not - V5 is working fine. THEN I discover things are not working.
So, I reinstalled V5 - did not do it as admin - sorry. Things are working again. I am fine.
THEN I discover that V4 is still sitting in there - the NPVR server and Next icon are all still there. All of the code is still there. I had stopped the NPVR Service so it was not interfering. I am NOT going to delete all that stuff - I am too fearful of messing this thing up. It is a huge pile of code and services. Can I safely delete all that? OR . . .
I'd love to see the component map or whatever you use to design things these days.

Thanks. Stay Safe.

ONE more question, related to the original problem. What output quality would you suggest for this older PC?
This thing has Dell Inspiron Gaming Edition Desktop Tower, i3656-8022RED, AMD FX-8800P, 16GB Memory, 2TB Hard Drive, 2GB GFX, Windows 10, 4 cores. Not upgradeable to Windows 11.

Thanks. Stay Safe. Us "old" guys are at some risk here.

When you watch in the web application it needs to transcode on-the-fly to a format that is compatible with the web browser (H264 video + AAC audio). This is a fairly CPU intensive process. Newer machines would typically have no problem with this. Other machines can struggle.

When you watch in the desktop application, it can play the existing file without needing to transcode.

Uninstalling NextPVR v4 does leave it's data directory behind. C:\Users\Public\NPVR. I've not seen any reports of the uninstall leaving behind the application folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR. In the Services control panel, do you see two NextPVR services listed?

Yes - both services are still there. ON the uninstall I asked it to keep the data folders - but it kept ALL of the files.
While I have your attention - and thank you for that - VERY much -
I have been a PlayOn using from day one. They just upgraded to a per month fee and the old one stopped working at the same time.
I see lots of references that tell me that people can record streaming TV - like Pluto.
I assume I need a better USB tuner for that. I am using an old AverMedia H25 hybrid thing for OTA.
What would you recommend.

AND . . . thanks. Your investment here is amazing.

It's sounding like it's still installed.

If you go to 'Add and Remove Programs' (or whatever it's called on your version of windows) do you see both versions of NextPVR listed?

It's a complicated topic, but yes you can do this type of thing with addons. It's all done with software though, so doesn't depend on your tuner.

You could try running "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\uninstall.exe"

It's not going to break anything.

I saw that there before ' it worked. Thanks again. It left a couple of remnants. AND everything works. Marvelous. I see that the IPTV stuff is all software. Give me something to do for a few days.
You do really good work. Thanks.
