Just as a word of warning running v4 and v5 together can cause harder configuration for all the network UI clients, better to avoid them if possible.

If I could use an analog tuner in ver 4 I would stick with ver 4 and not do a dual ver setup...

It depend on your source, most analog video reception would need an IR blaster for turning. FM is ok because that tuning didn't change.

I hear ya Sub. I still have a working ver 4.2.3 and if I can create an analog channel from an analog tuner that would be huge to me. Extras is great in ver 5 but takes so much to program with FFMPEG.

If a RTSP stream could be used that would be nice feature in a future release.

By the way. Can anyone point me to a good learning tool to begin learning FFMPEG from the ground up. I am serious. I want to learn FFMPEG.

Thank you

Honestly, it's probably as-much if not more effort to get analog going in v4 for most people - ie, often editing xml file to add definition for device, then having to track down Hauppauge WinTV components that often needed to be manually installed.

Creating an Extra for an RTSP source in v5 is like about 6 lines of xml. I know it takes a bit of technical knowledge, but it's not too complicated.

Code:
<extras>
    <channel name="RTSP-TEST" number="800">
        <command>ffmpeg.exe</command>
        <args>-i &quot;rtsp://172.2.3.4:554/somewhere&quot; -vcodec libx264 -acodec aac -f mpegts - </args>
    </channel>
</extras>

A webcam is not a typical PVR input, as sub said a normal rtsp video Extra is trivial. Your URL was not XML friendly either. Where it became harder for your source with it didn't have audio so the extra had to generate audio for NextPVR to use it.

Ok, I hear ya. I will forget thoughts of still using a ver 4 setup. I could do without an analog channel. But it would be very cool to find out to do it. Just because my 4.2.3 works now does not mean it will work in the future for there is no control over the IPTV providers. Knowing how to do an RTSP Extra is very helpful and very appreciated sub. Donation forth coming. Thank you...

Now if someone could turn me on to a good learning tool to start learning FFMPEG that would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Exactly what analog device were you hoping to use?
