Hi

I finally updated to version 5 (I was many versions back).

- I have two HDHR-US SiliconDust tuners.

- Install of v5 was successful
- All tuners and channels are seen in schedule (I use SchedulesDirect)
- Live TV works in both the SiliconDust and NPVR app.
- Recorder will create a file for a show (of what looks like appropriate size) but it won't play in NPVR or via VLC (transcoder failed message appears in NPVR).
- Tried video encoder set to Intel and CPU
- Firewall disabled
- New mini PC (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083LXPNJS?ref...tails&th=1)

Log file attached.

Thanks for the help - this has always been great.

Steve

Assuming you are having trouble with the NextPVR.exe client make sure you have the LAV 32 bit video decoder enabled. In general recordings play much better in Direct Play clients like NextPVR.exe sub's other clients, UI Clients or Kodi.

I don't know how you are playing recordings in VLC that would involve transcoding. When you write "NPVR" you seem to refer the the web player and NextPVR.exe which are quite different. I do see lots of errors playing "My Three Sons" in the web client, you should see how it plays in NextPVR.exe after you install LAV.

That doesn't seem to help. I did change the format to 1080p and it now creates a playable file. The recorded file is choppy (I put it on a thumb drive and also played it on a new i7). Live TV is perfect. Any idea why it would have trouble recording a clean file? Is my PC underpowered? It seems to be well above the requirements.

Can you supply a sample recording so I can look at it here? Upload to somewhere like onedrive / googledrive and let me know the download link.

Make sure the sample is left in the original format, ie turn off the 1080p transcoding.

Update - Live TV still works.  I just tried recording a snippet to send.  The player fails to play it as does VLC.  The snippet is attached here, as is the log file.  I'm leaving for vacation and would love to get this back up and running so it works while I'm gone.  Any help is appreciated.  I'm sure I'm doing something stupid.  I've tried it with my firewall on and off with the same result.  In my firewall settings nextpvrserver.exe is allowed as is hdhomerun_checkforupdates.exe, hdhomerun_setup.exe, hdhomerunview.exe.

Thank you for the offer to help.  I greatly appreciate it.

Here's an example from when it was choppy vs. just failing. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AmzgXK8dzJngiIxp7ZLk...Q?e=qfZP1S

Both files are very bad, however I just noticed you have two legacy tuners and so live tv is on one and recordings are on the other.

Try disabling the "bad" tuner 10146ACB in Settings Device, (hold ctrl key) and see if recordings work.

Steve,

You're using OTA signals, correct? And you mentioned a new server. Did you make any changes to the way the antenna cabling is done? (i.e. adding any splitters or even just disconnecting and reconnecting cables) It seems like often these sorts of problems end up being signal related. It's also possible that one of the tuners is just failing or something, too.

I would suggest that for troubleshooting, it would be best to take Martin's advice and use the NextPVR.exe client on the server (with the LAV 32-bit decoders installed. NOTE: you must use the 32-bit one even on 64-bit Windows!) Which you can play Live TV and recordings via the NextPVR v5 web interface, the mechanism is different and adds more complexity. A direct play client like NextPVR.exe on the server is the simplest playback method.

And to help try to eliminate various signal and/or tuner hardware differences, it might be worth trying temporarily disabling all but 1 tuner for your testing. That way we know that all of the testing is using the same connection and hardware. You could then repeat with each of your 4 tuners enabled one at a time to isolate any possible signal/hardware issues.

And, if you'd like a house call to try to help you, feel free to PM since I'm guessing you live about 30 minutes from me. Big Grin
