New to PVRs - Setting Everything Up

You can get XMLTV from the free HDHR data but it is only 4 hours.  I might be able to figure out how to get more  You can get more with the DVR subscription.

Out of curiosity how do you see an EPG with the Silicon Dust software? I just can find how to get scrolling lists, channel by channel.  I think they call it slice

I thought HDHR gave 24 hours for their basic package, but if it doesn't work with NPVR then I have to find another option anyway.

I don't know how to get an actual list, only the slice view and that wasn't working right away either.

I figured out how to get the free 24 hour guide now and will have a utility to get it when the next update of NextPVR comes out.

That's awesome! So does that mean I can use HDHR's EPG data in NextPVR to record shows? If so, that would be awesome so I don't have to pay any subscriptions!

I basically was providing the utility for first time HDHR users so they can get an idea of what a PVR can do and not really a prime EPG source. However yes if scheduling on a daily basis is something that interests you this will work. You can still create recurring recordings but it will take a week or more of setup.

You could probably also link it to the TitanTV scheduler for a longer period but honestly, Schedules Direct is a cup of coffee a month and it cuts out so many these hassles.

What does a week of setup mean? Can I only record something within 24 hours of when I am setting the recording?

You've lost me here. Not sure how I can link to that (and honestly it's the first I've heard of TitanTV). I know SD is cheap and convenient, however, the goal with this whole project was to eliminate subscriptions (one of the reasons I was into NPVR!).

My apologies for the hand holding across the street here, this is the first I've done anything like this so I'm green in many aspects and have a huge learning curve. I'm willing to learn whatever I need to in order to get what we're looking for, I just don't know where to start.

You can set up a recurring recording no problem, but you won't have Tuesday's guide until next week so you either you create a manual recording and hope you get the correct title or you wait a week.
