Feature Request: EIT Support, plus Stop and Save Recording.

I've been having problems with scheduling certain series recordings, mostly because the broadcast often runs overtime, up to 30 minutes or more, and adding 30 extra minutes of "padding" works only intermittently.

I'm in Sydney, Australia, and I enjoy watching certain sporting events, particularly the National Rugby League Competition (NRL), and whilst I have mostly been able to record complete games, every now and then, the device will stop recording before a game has finished. This can be due to the extra "padding" minutes being insufficient, but sometimes it can stop for no apparent reason.

I'm now running Windows 10, finally upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate. Upgrading to Windows 10 meant that I could no longer use Windows Media Center.

Windows Media Center supported EIT, as well as the ability to stop and save a recording when the programme was actually complete, avoiding the necessity of waiting for the "padding" minutes to pass.  This meant that I could make shorter recordings of the correct programme length, with concomitant reduced file sizes, often up to 2GB smaller.

Unfortunately, NextPVR seems neither to provide support for EIT nor for Stop and Save recordings, the only option being "Cancel," which results in the recording being deleted.
I'm hoping that the developers of this software might be able to include this support in a future version.

There clearly is an understanding issue but let's tackle them separately.

First, cancel will not delete a recording unless it hasn't started. In NextPVR.exe and the web client once it is cancelled, then there is a second option to delete it. In NextPVR.exe it does move from the scheduled recordings window to What's new or Recordings. Hopefully you are seeing this, if not we need more info one your client and the zipped logs showing what is happening. You might be clicking twice.

Also NextPVR supports OTA EPG, did you map your channels to DVB EPG? I see in another post that you have logs for that you do. Which channel is not providing you with guide data we might need more technical debugging.

I think that I have seen somewhere that (in at least some parts of the world) broadcasters update the EIT information in real-time when there are schedule changes such as a sporting event running long. I'm wondering if that is what the OP is referring to.

I'm pretty sure that NextPVR v4 had a config option to enable/disable reading the EIT data during recordings. I haven't heard anything about it in v5, so I'm guessing it might not be there any more. Plus, I think that it was only for populating the EPG, not for monitoring if the current show was being extended--and, if so, to extend the recording similar to what NextEnd does. Sub will probably need to chime in here to confirm.

That is certainly possible.

As for the cancel/delete issue I suspect the problem is NextPVR stopped recording the match after 1hr 25 minutes based on guide date so there was only the delete option. The OP probably expected it was still recording.

I don't know about any config option to enable/disable EIT data during recordings, and anyway, I was surprised to see that the recording had ended, because the game had at least another 40 minutes to go. The recording ended around the end of the 1st half, which is followed by multiple commercials, some half-time "expert" comments, more commercials and eventually the 2nd half begins, and is scheduled to end 1 minute before the 6:00pm evening news. And anyway, the Post-padding was set to 30 minutes, so the recording should actually have finished at 6:30pm, not 4:25pm.

As noted in the other post NextPVR did what it was told to do by the guide data and your configuration.

Since this is a wishlist forum I guess the wish is to reload the OTA EPG during a recording. This did cause a lot of problems in the past and can mess things up badly.

Another option to consider is to sign up for the Schedules Direct trial and see how it handles sports.
