I have been trying to do so, all I get back is:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<rsp stat="fail">
<err code="8" msg="Invalid Session"/>
</rsp>

Sub's answer was a bit simple. You need to login to the web page in the browser to get the credentials first and even then you might not be able to view it but it is valid.

If you are trying to use it in different apps there is more to do plus to use this you need to turn off and you probably should do a forum search to find out more of the limitations and usage.

Ultimately you are just better off using a supported NextPVR client.

I tried http://localhost:8866/service?method=channel.m3u on the same box using VLC but nothing. If I enter it into a browser it says Document is empty.

I am really just trying to back it up. Im not even sure I can get the guide data to go with it. I doubt there is an ID in an m3u for that.

This doesn't backup anything since it depends on NextPVR running to be of any use. You best bet is just save npvr.db3 and config.xml

Many browsers don't render m3u files and as I said there are other posts about reducing security to let vlc use the playlist if you do a forum search

Yeah, you can't get the guide data to go with it.

If you open that url from a browser that you've logged into the NextPVR app, the url should work and return a list of the channels you've setup in NextPVR. The browser might not how to show it though, because it not a file type a browser would normally handle.

If you're only intending to use it from your local network, so not worried security concerns about the internet, you can set <AllowUnauthenticatedStreaming>true</AllowUnauthenticatedStreaming> in config.xml, to allow the call to be made from an unauthenticated client (like VLC)

Is it possible to get a similar file to this for XMLTV epg data?

Thanks!

No. Typically the XMLTV export was being used for importing into commercial applications such as Plex or Emby.

Edit: Donators can know get the XMLTV data.
