EPG Not Updating on Fresh Ubuntu Install

Hi all,

I am having trouble with the EPG on a fresh installation of NextPVR version 6.1.1.221106 on Ubuntu 22.04 using a Hauppauge 2200 DVB-T.

It took two scans for all of the channels in Melbourne, Australia to appear, however, when I tried to update the EPG (using DVB/ATSC) only two channel sets (ABC and Channel 10) had appeared. I noticed that it claimed to skip far more than it inserted into the guide:
EPG Update complete. [4860 inserted, 0 updated, 24727 skipped]

Subsequent attempts to update the EPG just gave: [0 inserted, 0 updated, 0 skipped]

I restarted the nextpvr-server (via service command), and this enabled it to run another round of updating the EPG, however there are still several channels missing from the EPG. How do I make the other channels populate in the EPG?

Yes. When plugged into the same antenna lead my Samsung TV reported the signal strength as very strong.

Meanwhile, I've had success running NextPVR on Windows 10 using a similar setup (all channels populating in the EPG) so it has been surprising that it didn't work following the same process on Ubuntu. If possible, I would prefer to have it running on Ubuntu for consistency with my other systems.

I was trying to establish if you have good reception on NextPVR when trying to watch those channels?

TV tuners in actual TVs are often better than those used in PC components. The HVR-2200 also has an onboard splitter that halves the quality of the signal to each tuner.

Thank you for your reply and for your help. The position has been that our test results are sometimes difficult to interpret. We have used two identical computers, fitting identical HVR2200 capture cards to each, and installing the latest Ubuntu Linux to each computer in the same way from the same source, and accepting all updates. NextPVR was version 6.1.1.221106 in each case. When we opened NextPVR and looked at the Devices page we saw data that differed on different occasions; sometimes both tuners were "unavailable". On those occasions, rescanning for devices usually made them report "available" but within a minute or two they would revert to reporting "unavailable". When we scanned for channels, the results were quite inconsistent, both in how many channels were not found, and which channels were missing. The results tended to improve somewhat if we rebooted and rescanned, but at other times they would deteriorate if we shut down and tried again later. We tried booking numerous test recordings and checking the results, and found in the majority of cases recording was successful, but on a few occasions the "recorded" file was simply completely empty. As a basis for comparison, we looked at a Windows 10 and a Windows 11 computer using identical capture cards and the same version of NextPVR, finding "correct" behaviour in each case: no recordings were missing or faulty. Our conclusion is that we cannot give you enough valid information to pose a question to you, and our best course of action seems to be to focus on the use of Windows computers for TV capture purposes.
