Hi @sub,

I've had a problem over the last several releases where the .map file from recordings remains after the recording is deleted. This doesn't happen for every recording and seems random.

It's not a huge problem but that left over file pops up in my emby web server (only used very occasionally) as a series with no recordings (probably cause the series folder still exists rather than the map file). Most of the time I use Kodi as the front-end and that is what triggers the delete.

I've been clearing these files manually but is it possible to add a scheduler that deletes the map files for recordings that no longer exist or fix the root cause if it can be tracked down?

Cheers

Not the same, but I I had a similar problem with orphan files on a NFS share.  I took the easy way out and just delete them with a PostUpdateEPG script when the EPG update runs.  Here's the script I used.

Do you remember if you deleted the recording soon after it was made, or are they being left behind on all recordings?

It's definitely not left from deleting a recording soon after it was made, it can happen when deleting days after.

It's not on every recording.

I have noticed the same map files be left behind in the timeshift buffer directory, again this only happens occasionally so wonder if it's related.

Hi @sub,

Any idea what could be causing this or anything I can do to help diagnose?

I think without logs showing what happened it will be hard to figure out. NextPVR has historically left LiveTV file files after closing living TV.

Clearly there is a bug in Emby if it is indexing map files as videos and you need to report that to them.

Are the map files required for non-deleted recordings? Can I safely run a cron to delete them or do I need to create a smarter script that checks for orphan map files.

The .map files are only used while recording. They're supposed to be automatically deleted as soon as recording is complete.

Oh, in which case none of the map files get deleted ever for recordings once finished (only occasionally when deleted). For live TV timeshift it is again occasional once the stream is ended.

However since the map files aren't required I'll just create a simple script that cleans up.

The original recording might be open for thumbnails and timing files, so we really need those logs. Why is this like pulling teeth?
