Moving existing Nexpvr over to new PC. While storing files from old system to  import later,  saw something strange and have a question.

Was copying my old config, Npvr.db3 and Recorded shows over to Users\public\NPVR  folder and found another folder named NPVR-data on the old PC.   According to the Wiki I should be using the old PC's "NPVR" folder for sourcing the files to move.  The files in the NPVR-DATA folder are the ones currently being used and the other NPVR folder looks like it hasn't been written to or used for some time.

I'm curious why there are two folders?  Could the older NPVR Folder be from an old vs 4 that was left over when I upgraded to vs 6?  And why is the Wiki referring to the NPVR folder instead of the NPVR-data  folder?  I haven't installed NPVR on the new PC yet and I just want to be sure I'm using the right data set.   I've copied the NPVR.db3, etc from the NPVR-DATA which has the more recent file dates.  Just curious why I have two folders with identical contents (other than dates)  that are different names.

Also I want to leave the existing old system with it's NextPVR intact but not started until I can be sure the new PC is working okay.  Do I need to uninstall the NextPVR from the old PC?  I'd like to be able to revert back to the old system if needed.

You probably are reading the wiki incorrectly, there is no page on migrating from PC to PC, just from v4 (which uses NPVR) and newer versions which use the referenced NPVR-data

Windows is not case sensitive though but I don't think you should have a folder called NPVR-DATA. I believe based on strings that the installer uses NPVR-Data but I see NUtility uses both NPVR-Data and NPVR-data. Since you can't have more than one in C:\Users\Public use the one you have.

The info about the transfer process was what I got from browsing this forum on this subject and not the wkiki.  I only used the wiki to find out where the normal NPVR files were being stored.  Found Wiki reference below:
-------------------- snip from wiki ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Components
Data Folder Location
Windows

C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data ... data files including channel icons and show art.
C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\logs .... log files
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now on my old PC I have two folders in my C:\users\public\  folder.  Which are

C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data
C:\Users\Public\NPVR

The files I'm going to move are being copied from the NPVR-data folder and not the NPVR folder - correct ?

I ask because I noticed each of those folders (NPVR and NPVR-data) have config.xml files.  The newer dated one is in the NPVR-Data folder.

The Wiki area where I was looking for "components" to check WHERE the files were, only refers to an NPVR-data folder and I wonder why I also have an additional "NPVR" folder on the old PC. I'm assuming I should just ignore the NPVR folder?   Both those folders have a config.xml file.

Correct. Current versions of NextPVR use C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data.

The C:\Users\Public\NPVR directory was from old v4 and earlier versions.

Thanks Sub.  I did the install and transfer and went right to the Desktop Client and everything looks normal.  All my existing recordings and show info etc. are now showing up in the desktop client.  I did notice some stuttering and problems here with the new PC and new Nextpvr in Desk client so I also copied the newer NPVRTSReader5.ax over to the new PC.  And that fixed the delayed video startup and slight stuttering.  Everything now "looks" and works perfect (or so I thought)

However with the new PC (also Windows 11 pro system as the old PC) I found that I have some new issues.

1. can NOT access the web UI at all.  The normal log in "admin - password" doesn't work nor does the old log in and password I used on the old PC for NPVR log in work.  Also the "show status" is blank.  And bringing up "settings" via the desktop client brings up the Web "log in" screen where none of my login or passwords work.

So the desktop client seems to be working perfectly but the web UI log in name and password doesn't accept anything including the stock original.  I'm thinking my next thing would be to run the install process again which I assume would re-install nextpvr but retain all my settings?

Would that then allow me to log in with the stock initial user and password and allow me to continue to configure the rest of the settngs?

When you copy config.xml you copy any passwords too, so if you weren't using admin/password then you need to remember what you were using. Check you config.xml and reset them following these steps. https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid575305

Nothing works to change pass.  I tried changing conffg back as suggested in the link  https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid575305

I changed config to:
<Username>admin</Username>
<Password>5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99</Password>

Then tried to log in with admin, and password.  No joy

This is what I originally copied over from the old PC and this also no longer works  and NOW the old pc also won't accept the old log in name password either.

(from the old PC config)
<Username>Rich</Username>
<Password>e152a8c7b8dbbdf7825e3e38aff4ea81</Password>

So now both PCs do not have any access to the web app and the only access I have on both the new and old PCs is the desktop client.

I can't get to the web UI to get the logs sent automatically so I've manually zipped and attached all the logs in the User's  nextpvr log folder

Maybe set it back to

<Username>admin</Username>
<Password>5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99</Password>

Reboot, then try opening an incognito/private browser session, and see if it lets you login with admin/password

First your live tv buffer doesn't currently exist.

Could not find a part of the path 'E:\NextPVR buffers'.

Don't change your username and password until you get things working. Then go to http://192.168.50.14:8866 and see what happens.

For Sub:

Maybe set it back to

<Username>admin</Username>
<Password>5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99</Password>

Reboot, then try opening an incognito/private browser session, and see if it lets you login with admin/password

I'll have to try that "later".  As I said right now the desktop app IS working (I think)  It's been running for a few hours now and has already recording a couple pre-scheduled shows which I have already looked at and they play pefectly.   Tonight is a big night for recording and have shows being recorded for the next few hours.   Here is what I'm looking at right now:  (see the attached image)

The old PC is currently disconnected so I don't want to stop this new PC while it IS recording.  So later tonight I'll try Sub's suggestion.

For Martin:

Ah thanks Martin.  The new PC has the "E:" drive set up like the old PC and has the "Recorded Shows" folders on that drive and nothing else.   The old pc had several OTHER folders on it, most of which have nothing to do with Nextpvr and were folders I used to store misc things (some temp files video, screen caps etc.)  I did NOT re-create those extra folder OR the few other Nextpvr folders (Music, video, etc) that nextpvr was set to use on the new PC's E: drive.  I only transferred the "Recorded Shows" folder to the new PC.

I'll double check the old PC and recreate anything from it's E: drive that I think are Nextpvr files.   Since here on the new PC I can not access the web ui I have never got to the point where I could set up the "settings" using the web UI.  I even tried getting to the "settings" by right clicking on the desktop ap to access "settings" but that also sends me to the web UI and asks for the login and pass.

Kinda in a catch 22 situation here.   Right now I'll have to wait until the stupid thing finishes recording tonights shows.   Don't laugh.  I've been recording several years of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" every weeknight (3 episodes a night) for my grand daugher and am putting them all on some bluRay disks.  Can't stop now, still got a few more years to go.  <grin>
