Hello,

I recently installed NextPVR on my Debian bookworm server using by following the instructions on the wiki. It is mostly working, I'm able to schedule recordings and watch them using Kodi on my HTPC and Jellyfin when out and about on my phone/tablet/laptop.

However there are a couple of very annoying issues:

- NVENC is missing as a transcoder option in settings/transcoder. I have a Quadro P600 installed in the server with the official nvidia debian drivers installed. I can partially work around the issue by using Jellyfin (also on the server, which has no issue calling ffmpeg with nvenc) to stream recordings, however it would be great if the NVENC support could be fixed in NextPVR so I could switch on auto transcoding and save some disc space (the server CPU really isn't up to the task of transcoding without GPU assistance)

- NextPVR also doesn't seem to correctly capture the DVB subtitles on my machine. Directly playing the ts recordings in VLC shows a DVB track is present in the ts stream, but no subtitles appear when I try to switch them on. I have verified that this happens with programs that do correctly show subtitles if viewed live on a TV. What's weird is it did previously work. I have some older recordings from last year where the subtitles do show up correctly.

I'm otherwise enjoying using NextPVR, though if I can't resolve these issues I expect I'll have to try again with TVheadend :-(.

any tips or advice on how to resolve these issues welcome.

NextPVR's "one size fits all" transcoding approach is probably not good for since UK HD broadcasts are already h264 it probably would be wrong to auto transcode them. You'd be better off creating your own post processing script on the SD channels. Perhaps TVHeadend would show you a command line to use.

NextPVR doesn't filter anything from the ts stream. Make sure you aren't transcoding and if you want sent us a link to a sample file and we can check here.

Similar to what Martin said, there is really no point encoding UK H264 recordings to save space. The H264 format (we use in the UK for HD) is already an excellent container for storing 1080p content and (re) encoding H264 will just burn up a load of cpu/gpu time, loose image quality and save very little disk space.

FWIW, I transcode my recordings into an mp4 container (via postprocessing.bat) so that they play better (FF/RW) when using the UIdroid client on my Android TV.

Transcode or remux?

My bad. I remux. I confused my terminology

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into making a post processing script, I had hoped NextPVR would be smart enough not to transcode videos into the same codec with the "one size fits all" buton. You are correct, it's not the HD recordings that were bothering me, more the wasted space from the MPEG-2 SD video files (only a few channels here are broadcast in HD on terrestrial DTV, I don't have a satellite dish)

I've uploaded some truncated sample files here. In the recording from last year, the subtitles start at around 1 minute into the file when the news broadcast starts, in the more recent recording from yesterday I don't get any subtitles displayed.

There is a dvb subtitle track in the new file but is it empty. What tuner device are you using?

Do other channels show them?
