I just wondered if any thought has gone into this.  It seems to me that many manufacturers are going to RF remotes.  Fortunately for me, my Verizon boxes still have IR receivers even though the remotes are RF.  Is there a way to convert IR to RF or some other way to control an RF only device with NextPVR?  Sorry if I missed an answer to this.

Most commercial stb devices allow IR for integration with all in one remotes etc but you lose things like voice control. Afaik there is no BT "blaster" and firewire is dead so not much choice now.which is why you don't read much.

I have had limited success with adb tuning for Android boxes but it is far from a general solution

Yeah, may not be a problem in my lifetime, but I use the blaster that came with the collosus2. If everything goes to only RF or some other interface, that's obviously not going to work. This was just a curiosity question, no real impact on me at present. Thanks for the response.

The end of linear TV is probably more of a risk than the remote. Increasingly it is hard to get all programs through the stb without an app or apps. Too bad too because with more ads in the app it will be a shame to watch commercials again

Unfortunately, NextPVR currently doesn't have a built-in way to control RF devices directly. While converting IR to RF isn't readily achievable, there might be workarounds:

Check for compatibility: While your remote uses RF, some Verizon boxes might still accept IR commands. Try using your old IR remote with NextPVR.
Universal remotes: Consider using a universal remote that can learn both IR and RF commands, allowing you to control both the box and NextPVR.
Community forums: Explore the NextPVR forums for user experiences and potential workarounds for controlling RF devices. You can search for "RF remote" or similar keywords.
I apologize if you've already looked into these solutions.

Thanks for the reply.  My current STBs DO have IR compatibility so it's not a problem now.  My OP was really just a what if question.

My STB's are all dead. My cableco converted to a new system and while I can disable RF and control the boxes by IR, there is a secondary issue of being able to find good control codes, and I can't find any. I can't map them with LIRC either. I might even need to buy a Flipper Zero if they they remove the stupid ban here in Canada.

Bottom line I don't have any cable right now. Not having cable means not getting access to any of the network OTT apps either. You wonder why cable companies are bleeding customers?

My Canadian company uses the Xfinity IPTV, with an XiOne player and the XR15 remote. I don't know what to do for March Madness and NHL/NBA playoffs! They did send a new box with the "free" services but the XiOne UI is crap, slow, and it is locked-down (probably Android) system.

I feel your pain, but thank goodness Verizon has not taken such a draconian step (yet).

Actually I just read today https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/view...85#p398585 that Verizon and Fios was starting to cut clear QAM as part of their IPTV conversion so other PVR users will impacted not just STB output users. Did you get the new fiber ONT and IPTV Android-ish STB that they are talking about?

Note to self, when Verizon says they want to update my ONT and STB for me, tell them "I'm good."

Client: Odroid-N2 running knewc on KODI - connected via MoCA.
EPG: SchedulesDirect
Provider: Verizon Fios
Server: Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 10
