Scanning Channels Failure

Hi, I am using Zorin latest OS with Hauppauge Dual Dvb-T2 Tuner which NextPVR is able to detect but not able to scan for any channels. I have tried a few variations including 'auto-Default and still failed to receive any.

I’m guessing maybe you didn’t install the Linux firmware file for your tuner, so the tuner isn’t really in a functional state yet.

From memory, I think dmesg reports the firmware not found etc.

I still failed to scan for channels after installing the required files as follows,
First, determine the version of Ubuntu you are running
To do this, run this command:

dpkg -l | grep linux-image-generic-hwe

If a line is displayed beginning with "ii", then you are running the HWE version of Ubuntu. You will need to know if you are running HWE this in a moment when you install the mediatree. [ NO ]

Download the PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:b-rad/kernel+mediatree+hauppauge

After this first line, click enter when prompted to add this PPA.

sudo apt-get update


Install the media tree:
If you are running an HWE version of Ubuntu, use this command:
sudo apt-get install linux-hwe-mediatree

INSTALL THIS: If you are NOT running HWE, use this command:

sudo apt-get install linux-mediatree

Firmware Install
At this point, you also need to install TV firmware if you are using one of the following TV tuners (most North American TV tuners do NOT need firmware to be loaded, so this mainly applies to European/ANZ tuners):
• a Hauppauge DVB TV tuner in Europe, Australia or New Zealand (example: WinTV-soloHD, WinTV-dualHD, WinTV-quadHD, WinTV-HVR-5525, Starburst 2, etc.)
• 461e or WinTV-NOVA-S2
• WinTV-quadHD USB for North America

To download and install Hauppauge TV tuner firmware, run this command:

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-hauppauge

Close Terminal and restart your computer.

I suggest downloading this https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid586702 and installing it to to /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t and seeing if it helps. If not upload your zipped logs.

Hi Mvallevand, thank you for the solution.
I guess I am supposed to unzip and copy the file to usr/share/dvb/dvb-t, right? But I am unable to do the copying as the folder is locked even after I log-out of NextPVR.
Please advice.

Yes you need to copy it in as a sudo.

sudo cp sg-all  /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t

I tried many times executing the command but it is not copying. Should I put the file ‘sg-all’ to a dedicated location first before executing the command?
