I understand that negative padding can be good and bad, just pointing out that it is not trivial.  I am not frustrated, if I hadn't noticed that this wasn't for linearTV where Schedules Direct would have been beter, I wouldn't haven responded and let sub treat it as a wishlist item. 

Since they are only adding one hour though I think your original post is wrong so maybe they have other issues, you should have empty shows or long shows so maybe the default is best.

It's kind of a gamble, sure but that's on the user. I think if we want to gamble it will work we should be able to, but I understand it's not pressing

The risk I am talking about is making sure interfaces like Kodi and Jellyfin don't crash when unexpected negative numbers are received.

Recording the first xx minutes is slightly different since it should be based on start time not end time. For shows that variably end at 10:00 or 10:01 I would expect negative post padding could allow a 10:00 recording but the default would not cut it off until 10:01 if the tuner wasn't needed.
