Scan does not show one local channel

In NextPVR v4 and below, it did use 'hdhomerun_config scan' to scan for channels, but ever since NextPVR v5, it's just used the online channel list reported by hdhomerun.com. There is no easy workaround unfortunately (other than running a scan once in the hdhomerun utility on Windows, to ensure hdhomerun.com gets and updated channel list)

You may have other reasons for that change, but it seems to me that doing a scan is a better method, because what I pick up on my tuners and antenna, in the very large city that defines my location, is not going to match what someone picks up in another part of the city (or even my next door neighbour). This explains why the HDHomerun database was garbage data. The data that I (hopefully) update will be better, but not likely accurate for many others in my reception area.

It is also not intuitive that the scan button does not cause the tuner to scan for stations.

In any event, thank you very much for your help, and I hope to report back with a positive outcome.

If you have copied the HDHR4 to the HDHD3 you will need to remove the mappings from the HDHR3 device (open the device and hit the trash can close open and rescan after adding the channels in Windows)

Once you have both devices scanned, go to the Setup Guides and merge the tuners.

What may be intuitive to you is not to me, as my expectations are coloured by my use of a different PVR for many years, that actually ran a scan to determine what stations my setup could pick up. As well, it was not obvious to me that running a scan would send any data to Silicon Dust to update its database.

The HDHR3 and HDHR4 have different mappings, for the reasons I detailed above. I was not planning to merge as, if I understand that feature, it would defeat my use - I want some stations exclusively on one device, and some exclusively on the other. Ideally, some stations could be on both, but if that is not doable, it's not a real problem.

This only affects the oldest of HDHomeRun devices. Most HDHomerRun devices, you use it's built-in web server to scan, and all apps get the same channel list directly from your own device (not hdhomerun.com)

FYI, once you've scanned channels in that utility, the data stored on hdhomerun.com is specific to your device. Only you will get that specific list of channels. You scanning is not going to cause others in your area to get a worse set of data.

They're basically storing "10393C2F" has this set of channels available, and will always return those when we ask for the channel list.

It's done this way by SiliconDust to emulate compatibility with newer HDHomeRun devices, which store it on the device, but these really old ones didn't have enough storage to store it on the device, so as a work around they put it on hdhomerun.com

This is very helpful. I will have to remember that it is a two step process for both devices in case I make antenna related changes, or in case I want to add a less reliable station to the EPG.
