BTW, I subsequently tried to and maybe did install libmediainfo - there was an error because it wanted to overwrite ffmpeg and I declined, as I was concerned it would break something else. If this is the reason why the android UI would not play, I'm afraid that's a dead end for me.

Yes libmediainfo is used for UI client and also for web playback too, there may be other users. I don't recall it brew asking to overwrite ffmpeg but I am running ffmpeg 7.1 as part of normal brew updates. One more negative for macOS IMO.

I just connected uidroid to my macOS and it shows in the server selection list so I am confident if it was the only server it would show up.

Gatekeeper under sequoia initial blocks a bunch of items (unfortunately I did not keep track of which, but I'd say 4 to 6 in total). The process to enable is fussy:

1. There will be a prompt about an untrusted item, possibly malware, with two buttons: default is "Send To Trash". Press "Done" instead.
   
2. In System Settings:Privacy and Security, scroll down to "security", where you will see an option to “Open Anyway”. Confirm that's the item you had been invited to trash, click “Open Anyway”.
   
3. Repeat 1 and 2 for each prompt. 
   
4. You're not done. Next time you try to run NextPVR, you will be prompted again for each item you already said to open anyway. This time you will be given that option in the prompt. After approving each item, it should run.
   

An installer will not alleviate this issue unless the items are signed by a "known developer".

Web playback was working for me before I installed (or tried to install) libmediainfo, although an issue may have arisen after the recent update - it would play the first couple of recordings, but it would start cranking up the CPU into a few 100% and eventually playback would fail until I restarted nextpvr.

One more negative for macOS IMO.

Actually, I have found the backend to work really well. Now that it is running in the background without a terminal window, and I have the launchagent to respawn it if it quits (which has not happened for a few days), the backend does everything I want and does it well. It's the frontends that are not at parity, although the Kodi PVR add-on is pretty close.

I'm guessing that's because you already have your own server hard coded into the front end. As I recall, it was 10.x.x.x and if memory serves the 3rd quad was a 37. If I'm right, that will only work for you. I had to manually enter my information and the 10.x.37.x server still appeared in the list as a known server.

In the web browser click the I button, you won't see any info. For me it doesn't matter since I transcode at 100% so Canadian OTA won't transcode. I am working with sub to see about getting video toolbox working Amac should be a good client, after all NextPVR can run from an RPi, I'm just saying it is not easy to install I am not sure why transcoding is working well today, the mac may have been doing something since it was offline for so long.

I am running Sonoma 14.6 and it has the same gatekeeper issues you posted about.

I don't have my own server hard coded but my macOS came up in the list of available servers anyway. You'd see the call in your nrecord.log (this is on my hackintosh)

If it isn't working I think your network is the issue, maybe different subnet.

Having installed libmediainfo, I reinstalled uidroid and it now plays recordings.

I still had to manually input my server IP and it still shows 10.37.x.x. as a known server together with my server. 10.37.x.x is not my subnet, although my home network is a 10.x.x.x subnet.

Could you send the zipped nextpvr logs, I want to see what NextPVR is sending back.

Based on the log snipped you PM'd me NextPVR sees your PC listening on multiple subnets.

10.xx.xx.xx
10.yy.xx.xx.
10.37.xx.xx

and it logs 10.37 as the primary.

Since the uidroid broadcast is received on 10.xx NextPVR should really return the 10.xx subnet server IP. Sub could probably address this, but this is not normal networking.

No idea what's abnormal about my network. I have no such additional subnets set up.

How do I get back to the settings window in uiandroid? I think I have pressed every button on the remote to no avail. I want to try turning off limit ip address tracking to see if that's what's doing it.

I don't know if you want to play with the video transcoding settings in the web browser (the VIDEOTOOLBOX parameters are broken) but you can fake them be editing config.xml and leaving transcoding as CPU but change transcodeHLS args to
