Is there currently any support for subtitles or closed captions in the videos plugin / menu item?  recordings and live tv work great.

In general yes, you should be able to get subtitles in videos screen. It depends on the file type, and the component's Directshow used to play the file though. NextPVR asks those components about the available subtitles etc. If you're using something like the LAV components, it should support most types.

You may need to install DirectVobSub to get these subtitles to show. ie, https://nightly.mpc-hc.org/mpc-hc_apps/v...22_x86.exe

Thanks sub.

Well I installed DirectVobSub, and tried my mp4 with subtitles, and I could not get them to show in chrome using the web client.  I was able to get them to show on vlc after I changed the subtitle stream, but in NextPVR I didn't even get the option

Maybe try yauiclient and see if it finds them.

the yauiclient does show them, but I do not get the option to show them or not show them.  there is only the option of "Disabled" for the subtitles like the web client.

just for fun i tried the Roku app also.  no subtitles, no option.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think you'll get options for subtitles with uiclients. It's not really intended for anything other than ts files (like recordings/livetv).

I tried this morning in nextpvr.exe with directvobsub and I could correctly turn on subs with mkv files etc.

I did not test web client or uiclients.

Ctrl-X does still cycle them just cycle to no or use Altl-Y and hit No to turn them off. Teletext subtitles take a bit more work.

my testing has yielded the same as you both for all windows platforms. I was also able to cycle through the subtitle stream with Ctrl-X on the yauiclient. However I still cannot get any subtitles to show for the web client nor the Roku client. I have not, however, eliminated the fact that a setting in the config.xml is incorrect -- although these same files show subtitles in Recordings, just not Videos

My test file is an mkv where i re-encoded the file with ffmpeg and added the subtitle stream in the non-bitmap formats (srt, webvtt, ...)

For the Roku client that would all be controlled by Roku dashboard and the * key not NextPVR. I expect subtitles and closed captioning would need to me embedded. I won't be looking at this at all. Ultimately you should move to Android or other better platforms, the Roku is just too basic to make good clients that isn't service based like Netflix.
