dvr-ms on MVP

I am able to play dvr-ms files (MS Windows Media Center TV recordings) with GBPVR on my computer. However, my MVP unit just resets when trying to play these files. Mpg files play just fine. Anybody have advice for me on how to make these to play on my MVP?

You need to have the Cyberlink MUX filter installed on your machine if you want to watch DVR-MS files on your MVP.

If Cyberlink MUX filter is installed, is it then possible to set which format that the recordings will have (i.e mpg or dvr-ms)?

Only for BDA devices - via the BDA mux setting. Hauppauge PVR150 etc always record .mpg files. GO7007SB devices can also record .avi files.

Sub, could you expand on that a little? Is that the BDA Multiplexer setting in the Misc tab in the configuration screen? If I'm running a Fusion HDTV card can I get it to record in mpeg2?

I have a Twinhan DVB-T +CI card (with BDA driver), it records dvr-ms as default. Possible to change to mpg?

Yes, if you install the Cyberlink mux, and configure the BDA Mux setting in the config app to use the Cyberlink mux, then it'll record .mpg files.

Excuse me for butting in, especially since I don't have direct experience of this, but as I understand it, MCE always records its video files as DVR-MS so it isn't possible to tell it to record as MPEG.

However, DVR-MS is just a "wrapper" for MPEG2 that adds programme information, etc., and there are utilities which will strip it back to MPEG2 (perhaps that's what the Cyberlink Mux filter does) so that is the only answer when recording with MCE. When using most (all?) other PVR programs with a PVR150/250/500 card it will record as MPG as it encodes in hardware.

I've never tried it but I've often wondered if simply renaming the files to .MPG will allow them to work?

Yes, MCE always records .DVR-MS files, but GB-PVR can record either .MPG or .DVR-MS (for BDA devices).

In the case of playback on the MVP, it requires MPEG files for playback, and the Cyberlink mux plays a role in the conversion from DVR-MS to MPG.

Thats usually what the authors of PVR software that can only record DVR-MS say to make the file format sound more acceptable, ignoring the benefits of using standard file formats like .MPG which are useable in all sorts of applications.

No, that doesnt work. The container file format is quite different.
