Hello NextPVR users & "old heads!"

After 25 years with a satellite provider "I have seen the light." I am also a new SD account holder and a new user of NextPVR Ver. 7. I have a simple private LAN setup whereas I use a NON-INTERNET connected router to access NextPVR & Kodi via my laptop running Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1 with a slim down (all apps disabled or unstalled....except for Kore remote app for Kodi Nexus) android Motorola Pla. I am using Hauppauge Dual USB tuner connected to the laptop. This ensures a closed system. This setup works very well. I use my Samsung S25 Ultra cellphone to temporarily activate its hotspot & then using the FireFox browser on laptop to update my SD EPG. After SD EPG is downloaded and channels are populated I deactivate the hotspot & then reconnect laptop's wireless network back to the router. This closed process works well. However, when I "switch" back & forth between the two accesses NextPVR does not retain my SD EPG source link. I can establish it and reassign it to all my local channels while connected to my hotspot...then I turn off hotspot and return my laptop back to the my close LAN....all works until I once again open the browser to access NextPVR via my hotspot thu my laptop...my SD EPG source is no longer listed on the EPG sources page. My SD login info is still shown on the Guide page. I even have re-entered my SD login credentials & selected the button to reload/refresh my SD source. No action occurs. I have closed FIreFox and re-open & even refreshed the browser. I have also tried another browser...same outcome. I tried several uninstalls/re-installs and always made sure I selected "remember me" at NextPVR login. I have also read/reviewed a great source (user manual )for NextPVR (Page Index - sub3/NextPVR GitHub Wiki).  It seems like NextPVR is not retaining OR is there something with SD access that is forcing NextPVR to not retain my selected SD EPG source when switching from my hotspot connection to my closed LAN?

My goal is to have my SD EPG source retained in NextPVR and also assigned to each of my local channels not matter if I switch between my closed LAN or using my cellphone hotspot to update SD EPG or not. Unfortunately, I have to re-assign the SD EPG source to each channel every time I switch accesses.

Any insight/information/workaround/NextPVR configuration file adjustments/ or other would be greatly appreciated!

If you aren't using a static IP, SD will block you because IPTV pirates were abusing these accounts. If that is the problem contact SD here https://www.schedulesdirect.org/lineupsupport and they can make exceptions for some legitimate uses cases.

Martin,

Thank you for your quick and very insightful (knowledge) as to why I was experiencing that situation. It definitely makes sense since my "private" LAN system has static IP addresses for the router and my laptop. Since my cellphone is not, as we all know it is dynamic. I will definitely contact SD to how we can move forward. Again, thank you.

Good day Martin,

After some further investigation into my SD account and feedback from SD, my account has not exceeding in hitting the limit on the number of IP addresses allowed to use. I can definitely it has only have a few since I had only been trying to establish and retain the SD guide link during this install period. I can say that, upon further testing, as long as my laptop is "constantly" connected to my phone hotspot and the laptop top is powered off and on repeatedly NextPVR retains my SD EPG guide link. Yet, I can turn off the hotspot while the laptop is on AND NextPVR server is running AND establish my wireless connection to my closed LAN router the SD acount link showing my SD EPG is still displayed. However, while the laptop is still connected to my closed LAN router & I power off & then on the laptop NextPVR doesn't retain the SD link. Also, please note that I also included the basic north American SD link in the EPG source listed with my SD link & upon doing the same action as indicated, NextPVR lost both SD links. So, my observation is this: if NextPVR is started within a operational closed LAN after being connected "outside" to the Internet & has established & working well with a SD link it does not retain any SD EPG links that were established previously "outside" of the closed LAN.
How can we "permanently" ensure thru some config or .in or html or xml file to "force" NextPVR to retain any & all SD links & settings for those links when it wakes up in a "non-internet" connection?

Sorry I still don't fully understand the problem When you say link to you mean the lineups? You do need an Internet connection to manage or see the lineups but I am not 100% if they need to be loaded on startup to do an EPG update since the lineups are stored with the channel. I would to see your zipped logs for that to better understand the problem

First though to run in local LAN only mode make sure you disable all the art downloading which could be one source of the problem Art download is done at arbitrary times outside of NextPVR control. Also you will need to turn off the scheduled EPG run and only do it on-demand.

Hi Martin,

I apologize for my use of the term "link." Yes, I do mean "lineup." My mind "sees" the EPG sources listed and originally thinks link. Yes, I do "connect" to the Internet via the mobile hotspot operating from my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for just a couple minutes so I can download/update the SD guide. I temporarily set the time within the Times box a couple minutes ahead of whatever the current time (i.e. if the current time is 8pm then I set it for 8:03pm) so I can have 14 days populated in the update. If I select the "Update EPG" button on the About page I will only get 1/2 the number of days. After NextPVR completes the EPG update with my 14 days & I check to make sure I TVGuide display is correct showing all 14 days then I manually change the network connections on the laptop running Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1 to my "Non-internet" LAN router connection. Then I can use the Kodi remote app as my "digital" remote to control the Kodi interface. This EPG update & changing network process works well because I can be completely removed from the Internet & operate my OTA situation without having any background internet. Essentially a "closed" system.

I find that NextPVR is the most straight forward backend server program. I had tried a few other backend server programs that operate within the Linux environment & found that either the install/setup was too convoluted, too bloated or both.

Your suggestion to disable artwork is very interesting & a new insight that I wasn't aware of. I will definitely uncheck ALL the Artwork sources on the General Page and reboot the computer & retry my process. I will also definitely, after trying that I will provide you with the feedback & log file.

I have noticed that there is a new update for NextPVR. I will wait to move forward with the update after I have tried this Artwork step.

I GREATLY appreciate you working with me on this!

Nick

The only reason that the manual update is shorter is because of a config.xml setting, <SchedulesDirectDays>9</SchedulesDirectDays> it is done that way since most people will do an overnight run anyway.

If the issue isn't the token I still haven't figured out what the actual issue is with the lineup beyond them not being displayed on startup or updated if you are offline. Online access for maintenance makes sense since the lienup changes are on the Schedules Direct server. Next time include the zipped logs to help explain the problem.

Just so you know I just physically restart the laptop each time I try a "change" in NextPVR to restart the server for fresh start. Yes, I could stop...mask...disable, etc thru the terminal window but just easier & "cleaner" in my mind to have a reboot. No noticable difference deselecting Artwork. Currently only SD artwork is selected. As always, after computer/OS restart & hotspot is on the EOG sources show up ..this is understandable & a given (see screenshot of EPG lineup listing). When NextPVR is initiated in Firefox after another reboot & the laptop is connected to my closed LAN the EPG sources list only shows (lists) the hard coded DVB/ ATSC EPG option....very understandable & a given. Upon further trys this morning I have observed that while NextPVR is running & being viewed in Firefox I can switch from my LAN connection to the hotspot connection via laptop network manager then go to the NextPVR Guide page & select "Add SD channel Lineup" & select the default SD North American Everywhere from drop-down list. Upon that selection I would see a message "Lineup already in account" (btw..very nice to see the message coded in!). Once I select ok to close message I then refresh Firefox & the EPG sources list is refreshed & repopulated with the correct SD lineup. I then have a successful EPG lineup download from SD when I proceed to update it.

Please note that the image showing the "Mapping" aspect ".... loading" thru the popup window Edit Channel Details is what occurs when the laptop is still connected to my LAN. I am not trying to map the channel...just illustrate that even tho the correct source is shown it is not  " really" retained since NextPVR is not connected to the Internet.

Overall, just maybe the steps at the beginning of this message might be my workaround because at least even tho I am looking at 9 channels I don't have to "re-assign" SD to each channel. Smile

I have attached the log file(s) per your request & several screenshots to assist you (hopefully)

Nick

I understand the issue with starting NextPVR with no Internet not getting the lineups initially on startup and during the run and as I posted you should not be doing guide maintenance with no Internet so the screenshots don't help Once the mappings are set there should be no need to change them anyway.

Other then some obvious issues in the server logs I don't understand is how is this impacting the scheduled EPG updates when you say you have Internet? I don't see that in those logs since your manual testing rolled the logs, but the next scheduled update is 9/24/2025 12:20 AM so post the logs tomorrow morning before doing any testing.

You will have to disable SD artwork the downloads are not tied to your scheduled hours
