air dates for shows

Any chance of retrieving air dates of tv shows from online sources to be added to guide information so people know when a show was originally made.

What EPG source are you using? Some EPG sources already have this info.

I am from UK and unfortunately does not contain air dates for shows.

I am talking about free to air guide data, of course you can get the information if you pay.

TANSTAAFL someone has to spend the time built it. For me it is not worth it. The biggest limitation with free data is getting proper episode information for matching. With the free data sometimes it is often hard to match art and that is at series level.

Part the problem with this request is that we're obligated to use the free online metadata services as lightly as possible. ie, we only pull in artwork for shows the user tries to view etc, rather all artwork for all shows. The same would be required for original air date, we couldn't pull it in for all shows, and it'd be very quirky having the original air date show up a couple of seconds after you view the details of a show. Honestly, it doesn't seem worth the effort for a less-than-ideal user experience.

Yes I understand what you are saying, it is unrealistic to download all information for all shows.
But I do feel just as you get the artwork, getting the air date would surely just be a minor addition and shouldn't strain any demands on the metadata services?
To me I think it would be a nice addition, but of course this is upto you as you are the creator.

Ok. I've added something like this, but it can only load it if a match is found in thetvdvb when looking for artwork, which is the one situation where it already gets a look at this data without having to make additional calls.
