I got an email today that the older generations of TabloTV won't be supported after Sept and that motivated me to to look into what could be done with a Gen 4 box.  Turns out that with the help of Claude I was able to update my extra to support it.

Basically the extra install uses server authorization to scan and load the channel list from their server.  After that tuning is all local as long as you don't change authentication.

Annoying for me all configuration is via mobile, but that is really just for scanning (of course you can watch mobile with their app).   It defaults to H264 with AC-3 but  AAC is possible in setting for playing in NextPVR web.

They seem to go on sale a lot so I wouldn't pay full price.  Without rambling on further if anyone want to beta test this let me know.

Any idea what "won't be supported" means? If just no guide and the other things associated with using it via their app, don't really care. If somehow they will disable the tuners from being accessed as you are doing, I'd be actively looking for a way to block their access from doing that.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

OK, see the announcement. Does/will this impact your extra?

They say they won't intentionally break it but at the same time right now I can no longer easily access the web config for G3 because of CORS error so hard to say.

For Gen2/3 installs I do use this URL https://api.tablotv.com/assocserver/getipinfo/ so if that goes, installation will be based on the scan option the extra has.

Anyone who's used both have a feel for the relative quality of the tuners in them? I have a 3rd Gen that drops signal relatively often on the same antenna connection as 2 different hdhr models. Hdhr essentially have perfect signals other than unusual weather situations while, as I say, the tablo will have little drops multiple times per hour. Fbm near me as a very attractively priced v4 currently.

For reference, channel master 8 bowtie roof mounted with a 4-way splitter/booster. Both Hdhr generally show high signal quality and strength across all channels. Not sure if Tablo has similar signal quality access.

Also, any differences in use via Npvr between the different models?

I see Tablo has rolled out new firmware for Gen 3. Safe to upgrade for Npvr use? They talk about fixing a "security issue" just want to be sure that doesn't break your access method.

Thanks

I find the TabloTV Gen 3 significantly reception for weaker signal. I have 1 signal the HDHR won't even scan that is watchable with pixelization on the TabloTV.

Interesting. I'll check and see if I'm over boosting the signal for the tablo by skipping the booster for it. I know the hdhrs work better with the booster.

I added a question to my earlier post about new v3 firmware that might have been just as you were replying.
