This is a great remote and it will really help if I can control my TV and sound system via the included infrared blasters. It looks like they will not work with the NZ Pace Sky TV box, which apparently requires an IRDA blaster. Can someone tell me if this is true? Nevertheless, if I can get my number of remotes down from 4 to 2, it will be a bonus.

Hi WilPri,

Im currently doing something similar, except with a Samsung STB. Theres some pretty good software over at:

http://www.byremote.com.au/HIP/

http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/mce_remote_faq.htm

called HIP, its similar to Girder except its free, allows you to map your remote to commands to send to either GBPVR or the MCE blasters, and also has a utility called 'HIPSend' available that will send commands from GBPVR to the IR blasters to change channels on your STB.

go to the hip forum and search for GBPVR for the developers suggestions to people on how to tie the two programs together with the MCE remote.

as for your Pace box being IRDA, visit this site:

http://www.redremote.co.uk/index.html

for a UK based company with an IRDA blaster specifically designed for the pace boxes...i stumbled on it from my HIP research as i thought i had the same problem. turns out ive just got a stubbon unresponsive Samsung box but hey ho...

hope this helps, im still trying to get my setup working seamlessly but im almost there so feel free to get in touch if you have any probs.

This is first time I've seen someone mention the Sky NZ Pace box is using IRDA. Are you sure this is true? If it is, then your only option will be the Red-Eye from RedRemote that ricklous mentions above.

I'm on TelstraClear cable tv myself, so I dont know for sure.

I'm still not sure what format the Sky Pace Box is. It is a Pace DSR620 and does not show up in many searches. I've found a site that talks about it not being compatible with the Hauppage PVR350 remote (RC5 protocol):

Thanks Rick for the excellent links and info on using the MCE2005 remote. I was playing around with Girder and could get the IR blasters to light up after learning codes for Panasonic Plasma TV, but it did not work. I will change my driver and try out HIP, thank you.

I am using the TUL card with the ATI Theatre 550 card chipset and the picture is very good. It comes with a Cyberlink remote, but I wanted an IR blaster, so the MCE2005 remote seemed like a good buy - if I can get it to work. I also use a Silitek IR keyboard.

About the GB-PVR settings:

Do I have to change the remote control type to "MCE Remote" if I use the HIP/Girder solution? And what do I set the channel changer to?

This page mentions the dsr620, and says:
"Good Points : Remote functions can be learnt by other remote controllers.", which indicates to me that it does not use IRDA.

Hi

I use MCE 2005 and HIP to contol my Sky box. I had to get HIP to learn the Sky boxes remote commands.

here's a link on the set-up.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...hlight=hip

There's a special program that will send the GBPVR channel number to hip so it sends out the IR codes via the IR blaster to the SKY box through the IR-red eye you place over the SKY box.

My system works great now using this.

I got myself a USB-UIRT as channel changer and it learned the SKY Pace box commands without a problem! So now my MCE remote works well as remote only and all the keys are active with help from Girder.

I could not get the MCE blasters to do the trick. Their blaster's red lights came on, but them Pace box just ignored them. It may be that the learning did not work or some other configuration.

It would be great if the MCE blasters were supported as channel changer like the USB-UIRT and use the same learning utility. Then we don't have to bother with Hip or Girder.

Hi gjen, any chance of making your HIP configuration available? My system is working, but I would like to experiment with HIP as an alternative.
