Hey Sub,

Just read an article that by Feb 2009 all broadcasts in the US will be digital. That means my Haup PVR's will be no good any more because I will need STB's. I know GBPVR will work one PVR-150 with IR Blaster but not more than one. Are you planning on creating a way for multiple PVR cards to use IRBlaster? That's the only way I can see that GBPVR is going to remain viable if I have to have an STB with each tuner and that GBPV can change the channels on each tuner's STB.

I don't think there is a huge hurry for this, just wondering what your plans are.

Thanks!

This is really a limitation of the Hauppauge IR Blaster software, not GB-PVR.

You can use other IR Blasters to do this. For example, the USB-UIRT can be used to control three STBs.

So I could use this USB-UIRT for a PC with a PVR-150 and a PVR-500 and GBPVR would not have a problem recording 3 shows on different channels at the same time if I had to have 3 different STB's?

If that is the case I will be looking into that!!!

Thanks Sub!

Thats the theory. I've never done it myself, but I cant see any reason why you couldnt.

I'm doing it now with a pvr250 and pvr usb2. no reason a third tuner couldn't be added. using usb-uirt with two stick-on emitters plugged into the uirt's output jack. only 'trick' is adding the usb-uirt's zone commands to the code file for each tuner. works great...never had an issue with channel changing.

I just use plain or analog cable now, in the past I was using STB to receive sat. I had 2 STB's. I was able to configure the address of each STB to something different. This way a was able to control both my stb's with a single USB UIRT.

Dear Ple and Lucas 24,
I want to do exactly what you are saying (controll two STB's w/ usbuirt)...can you provide me with more info on how to do that? I have them both hooked up to my pvr500 and when I change a channel, both tuners get changed...how can I tell gbpvr to only change the tuner thats not being used to record something else? Thanks.

Nevermind...tried to use a ir emitter on one zone, and the front ir emitters of the usb-uirt as another zone, but could not get it to work. Ended up figuring out that I can set up 2 different IR sets on my STB's...that turned out to be a lot easier.

That raises an interesting situation I have been considering. I have both digital cable and analogue cable in my setup. The provider delivers some channels exclusively on digital but the PQ of digital is inferior to analogue and I watch mostly analogue channels. Plus having two boxes means I can record one cable channel while the family is watching another one.

Currently I have gbpvr controlling the STB using a USB-UIRT recording directly from the composite video output of the STB

I am thinking of putting in another STB (analogue) next to the digital box. Using a Hauppauge PVR 250 I would connect the composite output from the analogue STB to the composite input of the PVR 250 and the RF output from the digital STB to the RF input of the PVR250. I would arrange for the USB-UIRT to point to both boxes (stacked on top of each other). The digital STB passes through the RF output the decoded channel being selected on the box so you can watch it on a TV with no video inputs (via RF).

What I want to do is record mostly from the analogue STB but occasionally I will want to record from the digital one. Is it possible to tell gbpvr that you want to record from either the composite video inputs or from the RF input and also issue the right IR codes to the appropriate box (the codes are different for each box).

Thanks

you's set up a capture source for each box, each capture source has it's own set of IR codes. AS far as selecting, if the channels are the same on both STB's, I don't believe there is a way to pick which cpature source will be used. If teh same channels have different designations on both boxes, I believe they will show up as different channels in the guide. THis way you could pick which channel to record from.
