Well i just got reffered here, and I love the software. One problem, I dont have a tv tuner card. So I am looking to get one. I have Rogers Digital Cable. I have a box from them. I also have high-def tv with them. So I guess I would like to be able to use normal cable, digital channels, and hi-defs channels. Is this possible? I would love to have gb control everything.

Yes, using a card like PVR150 or ATI 550 Pro.

Quote:digital channels,
Yes, but only with your digital cable box decoding the channels, then sending the signal via composite/svideo to capture card.

Quote:and hi-defs channels
No. There is currently no cards that can be used for recieving HDTV over cable.

I have seen some digital cable boxes that have a firewire port, I'm not sure how you get the STB to output to its firewire port, but it might be a way to get video into a PVR.

Can GBPVR treat a firewire card as capture source?
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

No, because the drivers for these devices are not currently BDA compatible.

There is nothing to stop another user developing a recording source plugin which can use these firewire devices as a capture source. I wont be taking on this task myself.

I should note though, firewire will only let you get shows that are transmitted 'in the clear' (not encrypted). Channels are transmitted in the clear seems to vary wildly depending on the broadcaster. Some transmit most channels in the clear, some transmit none..

For use with GB-PVR, I'd have to say the Hauppauge PVR500.

is this it? i have access to tech data and this is what i see..

Tech Data Description: WINTV-PVR 500 MCE WHITE BOX
Watch one channel while recording another with the WinTV-PVR-500MCE and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. WinTV-PVR-500MCE contains two complete TV tuners, each with their own hardware MPEG encoder! Ever want to watch the ball game while your favorite late night TV show is on? Well, with WinTV-PVR-500MCE, you don't have to choose which show to watch. Just set the Media Center Edition to record that late night TV show while you continue to watch the ball game, with full PVR capabilities. Pause live TV, replay and skip forward, all while your other TV show continues to be recorded to your PC's hard disk.
