I know it takes some time to start timeshift mode, but I liked what my Adelphia DVR did. At channel change, it would show the video right away, but you'd have to wait a couple seconds to be able to pause it. This is really the only significant advantage to their DVR in my opinion.

Ability to enter channel in the guide to go to highlight that channel would be nice too.

You can turn off live preview mode if you want to always be timeshifting. This setting is on the misc tab of the config app. It will make channel changes slower though.

You can already do this. Did you try entering the channel then pressing 'enter'?

It's actually the ok button on my remote, but it does work, just don't see the numbers as you press. Cool!

Does it have to stop the playback in order to go into timeshift? Like, could it keep the TV going and just take longer to go into timeshift, or would that be too hard to do? I'd pay yaSmile

Yes it does. I have to pass ownership of the device from the client application over to the recording service.

The alternative is to have it always in timeshift mode as I mentioned above. This mean slightly slower channel changes. I'd like it to be faster, but this was as good as I could get it at the time.
