I use ffdshow for everything, so I'm pretty familiar w/ it. I'm trying to think of a way to greate a condition where it only applies to GB TV (in timeshift, if that matters). I know how to do it for file types, etc, but I can't think what may specifically separate tv viewing.

What i'm trying to do is improve the color output for the 150. I, like other, wrestle w/ some washing out and overbrightness (and tweaking alone will not fix). I know I can improve w/ the color correction in ffdshow, but I don't want it to change playback of recordings (which seem fine) or other files that use mpeg playback.

Application match would work if cueing off recording service would do it. I don't think ratio would work since recodings would be the same.

I have ideas, but am holping someone could save some trial and error if they know.

Maybe a more specific qustion for sub or some knowledgeable individual would be what is specific about playing a file/decoder while watching TV, vs watching the recorded file or another file that would use the decoder (eg, a DVD).

I just have the 150 and a decidcated system. I can get ok color/bright w/ some playing, but it's problem on some models (mine being one). It takes a sampling of an image to get a white balence, and it washes out news brodcasts a lot w/ the lights and bright sets.

I get great color from the vid card and recordings. I just need to be able to change the lum on live tv only.

I appreciate it, but it's not that I can't adjust it or that I don't know what's wrong w/ it. I know if I can get just the TV to be detected by ffdshow alone--leaving the rest of the mpeg2 playback alone, I can apply some luminance offset through the Picture properties filter.

What it will put in is the rich darks and natural shadows--the kind you see in the shadows under someone's cheekbone or under their chin. Using just contrast/bright you can make them darker or lighter, but you can't add the natural texture you need.

I can grab a pix tomorrow to show what I mean (the CNN morning news washes out w/ that bright set they use). Outside of wintv, can you get a screen capture in GB? The effect is more drastic there.

This is what I'm talking about. The 1st is where the scene is filled w/ very bright tone w/ little to compare and get a good whitepoint for, it blows out the highlights. The other two (the 2nd being the shame channel/time) show that in normal viewing, it's fine. Even a very white image (eg, lots of clouds) it's fine. It's the bright color that attacks the brightness.

If I can specifically lower the lumenince high piont, it would be good all around.

Capone,

Is there a way for FFDShow to look in a specific directory for the LiveTV file. If so, you should be able to setup a rule that will apply to any file played back in that directory. I'm not overly familiar with setting up FFDShow for that type of stuff though.

That may be the ticket. They have a "on file name w/ wildcards". I'll give that one a shot. Thx much and I'll let folks know how it goes.

Interesting...I can't get ffdshow to engage on video. It is working on audio. I kind of thought it was always doing some post-processing on video w/ the raw setting on.

That image doesn't show it well, but my animation quality is probably the best thing I get. Very crisp and fluid.

My darks have been better since I got the high whitepoint lowered through some fluke ("cops" used to look like a guy in uniform in front of a black screen in night shots).
