-Im wondering is there a site or chart to tell if your video is getting clearer or better ( barely with other settings ) or what your image should look like.
Like to tell if your moniter needs adjustments or something ..
If i use 1024x768 resolution on my moniter. I half to keep the tv at about 1/4th the screen. At full screen i can see lil uncrisp lines and a tad blurr.
Would hosting a small video clip of my recordings help? ( prolly not if its recording right just not showing me it)

Do a google search (or try http://www.videohelp.com) for calibration and use a NTSC (if you are in the US) static image to calibrate to.

Even better, have a look on your DVDs to see if any have a calibration setup under extras (the kid's "Finding Nemo"has it, and I *think* I read the Star Wars DVD does too). You can use that to calibrate all your A/V gear.

I attached a standalone DVD player to my PVR150 s-video input and calibrated to that, then calibrated my monitor through the DVD-ROM, then calibrated the TV with standalone DVD component in.

That way you can be sure everything is balanced, as well as if you make a note of your settings, giving you a known baseline to adjust from / return to.

I dunno im still confused... i look on a site where it had you look at diffrent shades of black and white... i could tell the diffrence on all of them which is good.
But still my tv on the computer isnt as good as tv quality unless small as soon as it gets enlarged to full screen i see blurs and fuzzy lines. Its like its not compensating for size.
( its like taking a icon size photo its nice and clear and making it bigger... it gets blurry)
EDIT: btw this computer does not have dvdplayer/burner YET. Only cd player/burner I watch my dvds on my dvd player and laptop still.

ALSO i tried playing my n64 ( yes its a old system i just used for testing ) its was blurry... (yes there was a time delay so playing was not very possible... easilly)

Its probably the video decoder you're using, or the quality of the tv out on your video card.

Im viewing everything on my computer moniter ( a normal moniter that has a flat screen ) Not a tv...would that be the problem?
I have it set to system default for my software decoder.. ( i have a ati theater 550 pro tuner card btw )
When i tried to set this to cyberlink it wouldnt record with the vmr9.(like it hinted)
My graphics card seems to deliver crisp images and everything in games.
It says on the box i have hardware noise and 3d comb filter but i dont see where to look at there settings anywhere on my computer.
EDIT: im beginning to think tv tuners dont get quite tv quality pictures...i downloaded someones tv recordings and there just as bad as mine. I downloaded some clips of a dvd also and they were fine tho.
I dont think its the cards bad its just i think this is the limit...tv's are tv's for a reason i guess i do have a audio/visual outs i can plug in to a tv - and run the tv on aux... It would involve lugging a tv in here but i think that will be the last test..

Its most likely the video decoder then. Its hard to tell which one is being used when its set to 'system default'.

Also some video cards do a better job when using Overlay instead of VMR, so worth trying that.

Games does not equal video. They dont use the same features in the video card drivers.

I tried overlay it made the guide that appears when you move your mouse all blocky and the picture was no better.
I might try another video card after the tv check..and if it doesnt work ill just return it saying it didnt deliver the quality it claimed. Im also going to transfer some video files to my laptop (dvd player came to play this sort of things.. see if its a sharper picture.

The only current ones listed are the cyberlink and the system default.
Cyberlink site would have more? correct?

The picture of captain picard from startrek and that news guys talking is about the quality i get. Maybe better or worse depending channels.
Is this the same for all tv tuner? to be a little blurry.
I mean it is a tv tuner not a tv...
When i look at the quality they get im wondering if a real tv hooked up for viewing would make it better.. im beginning to think so.
