Question - What Are Your Settings?

Just a little "poll" if you want. Im pretty new to all this, and would like to have your configuration to get the best quality picture. Ive tried NVIDIA and Elecard but that didnt quite dit it. This is the best combination Ive found so far:

Video Decoder:
-DScaler 5007
-De-interlace = Auto, the rest of the settings were left as default
Audio Decoder = AC3filter

And the only other thing Ive changed from the default in the settings is under the MISC section, where only encoder pass-through doesn't give me weird shadow on a Hockey game.

Intervideo non-CSS
No video post-processing
ffdshow audio post processing for s/pdif to 5.1 receiver

I think people are just sick of talking about it. There is probably like one thread a day where people ask for recommendation on 'what decoders will give the best audio/video'.

its not that we're not a sharing community, just that this sort of thing is being asked all the time and there isnt one answer that works for everyone.

To find the best combinations of settings/decoders, you have to try them all on your machine and use your own judgement. The only way my settings would be relevant to you would be if i gave you my full spec list and you built a duplicate machine. Even then, the quality of your signal/ariel/cable also has a huge affect on the end result, so if i moved to the other end of the country my settings could become irrelevant when i set it up in my new home.

sharing general findings is useful, but specific lists isnt so much, so i think it tends to be specific problems and solutions that are shared.

as it is, Intervideo, Cyberlink, and Nvidia seem to be the decoders that most people end up playing with.

the 'VMR9, VMR7, Overlay' settings also have big impacts on the quality of your picture. If your trying to get rid of the ghosting try working through those three decoders on each of those settings and see if any combinations of those help. The cyberlink and intervideo also allow for hardware acceleration so try them out with that option ticked if you have the right hardware.

also check your ariel/cable isnt sat next to anything that can cause interferance....

Also a big thanks ricklous, I now understand what sub wanted to say, but failed miserably. It is well explained and I can understand a bit more now why I didnt get no response.

As for you sub, Ive seen some of your replies, and you really seem pissed off. Maybe you need some vacation, put all that aside for a while? We always seem to bother you with our question. You should take ricklous answer as an example.

Like Ive already heard, it's not the quantity of questions you answer, but the quality that counts

I think at worst, some of his replies come off as short or curt, but consideing the sheer amount of support to the amount of people he's supporting/replying to, it's pretty forgivable.

If you called Tivo for support, and the CEO was also the only person manning the phones, I think you'd get less than a chipper answer once in a while.

Just mentallu add a sunny disposition to the brevity of his response, and you'll find you're getting a reasonable response pretty evenly.

It wasnt meant to sound pissed off. I just wanted to give the shortest reply I could, to get across my view of why people werent responding to your question. I dont have time for long responses. I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way.

Nice one Capone but I'd like to add that I believe that curt responses are perfectly justified when newbies register on the site, download free software and then post :-

"I can't get this to work. fix this for me now or i will go and use some other software...." (like anyone cares)

or

"you're not much of a community because you didn;t reply back to me within 80 mins."

or

People don;t bother to invest any of their own personal time browsing the forums that contain a wealth of information on the most common problems that people encounter.

I guess the deal is that people don;t understand that (notwithstanding the huge contribution of the plug and skin developers), gbpvr is all the effort of one guy.

For all new members, who are most welcome here: The support Sub provides is just fantastic but please do your homework before posting and endevour to maintain a friendly disposition when posting.

I'm off to pick my toys up now.
