Remote Recording

One feature that sound intriguing is remote recording.

Say for example I am travelling to visit family and I realize there is a movie or baseball game or soccer game on that I want to record. It would be neat if there was a way to log in remotely to my computer and tell it to record.

Does anyone know of this current functionality or possiblity of implementation?

The web interface will let you do exactly that. Just configure it from the config program (last tab).

Dont forget to open the ports in your router.

...and if you've got a dynamic IP like most cable companies provide, use the free dynamic dns service from dyndns.com to give you an unchanging link.
Most routers have the ability to keep dyndns.com updated with your current ip.

Plus, if you have multiple machines at home, set them up with static IPs, and forward the port to the appropriate IP for your GBPVR machine.

Really? What is the feature called (in your router)? I don't think my POS router supports this. I had had to download the dns updater and run it on one of my PC's behind the router.

I've got a Linksys WRT54G and it's under a tab labeled "DDNS". I had a netgear and a DLINK before and they both had this feature as well. I thought it was pretty standard.

It might be standard but I have a peice of $#|+ microsoft router. I bought it and they got out of the networking market. Oh well at least I only paid $20 for it.

I guess I should buy a real router and use the MS router as a wireless access point.
