On the other hand, you'll have plenty of settings to play with to adjust sharpness, brightness, contrast, bitrate etc.

David.

Where would I get to those?

I don't know how gbpvr handles analogue capture cards like that. There might be something under Settings in the Recording Source?

How do you mean? if you mean you are in halls or something like that, then it might be your signal strength thats the problem. If your cable is shared with a load of other people in the building, then the signal will be weakened by being split and shared among so many TVs. in which case no ammount of fiddling will do much help as the signals already weak before it gets to you. Sorry to be bearer of bad news if thats your situation Sad A signal booster might help, but they arnt guaranteed...

I believe that's the case, I notice when I choose "Live TV" it looks as good as the recordings. Despite that, are their any tweakable settings that may help, even if just a tiny bit?

this site is the best place to learn about what can be tweaked on the PVR USB2, as well as all the other hauppauge hardware. if you hunt around the download section you should find the latest drivers and a haupaage tweaker tool which reveals settings that the standard software doesnt...

Im hijacking my own thread...Is it just me or the difference btw normal and high quality doesnt make much a difference when burnt on a dvd? I believe this would have to do with the resolution of my "normal" tv right? It isnt HD although it is flatscreen (but a normal cathodic tube flatscreen)

Just wondering....?

A higher res can give a clearer image but this is not as obvious on a CRT TV as it is on a digital display. What is important is that you have a high enough bitrate to handle the scene changes in a film. Fast moving action films need a far higher bitrate than say a period drama as there are far more frequent scene changes.

It may also depend on the bitrates you select when authoring your dvd. If you record a 4.7GB DVD at 4000k/sec, recordings with a max bitrate of 8000k/sec (high) and 4000k/s (med) will both appear roughly the same, depending on the program type.

Essentially it's a balance of resolution and min/max bitrates and these needs can vary depending on the content.

Therefore a recording of say someone staring at a tree for 2hrs will look the same at med and high (assuming you have the same res for both).

If they both look the same to you, go for the lower one.
