a lot of pvrs out there have asettings menu in the app itself, like media portal, xbmc, etc it would be cool if gbpvr included this feature (sub is probably already doing something about this, or on his huge todo list). just basic setup like skin, screen calibration, recording settings, show id3 tags, etc.

also be nice to include the "My" thing like windows, since is a windows app, it does work like my tv, my movies, my pictures, my email. just makes the app tie in nicer together

on what does everyone think of media portal? its pretty but i find slower and less stable, i wish a good designer designed some good skins for gbpvr to make it really shine, i my self suck at designing stuff, so yeah anyone whos good please make a nice skin, like project mayhem for xbmc or the mce skin

I tried media portal in its early stages and found it to be quite good, but cumbersome to setup. I have not tried it lately but things do seem to be progressing well with it.

I prefer the simplicity of GBPVR.

Being able to access some config settings through GBPVR would be good, but once i have it setup i don't tend to change many things. Its a trade off, as to how much more code do you want to put into GBPVR compared to its value?

As for the "My" theme, I would say if you want it like that, implement a skin. Simply placing My in front of names will make the text longer, which may cause problems with real estate.

At the end of the day, I'm a programmer (and a *nix one so what would I know about GUI's!Wink so its what it does under the hood that counts for meSmile

I also like having settings in application itself, but find it too time consuming. Within GB-PVR your pretty much have to do everything from scratch (drawing buttons, handling navigation between controls etc), and decided its not worth the effort.

Usually once you've got the settings right you leave them alone, so I decided a normal windows config app is fine.

putting the my in the theme wouldnt work, well not how i think you described it, since my would be infront of everything, my videos, my tv, my shutdown, my exit ? if the plugins names werent hardcoded it would be alright, how the skins use xml to display the name or something.

and sub yeah i know its not really needed (and probably a lot of work), and if you dont ever want to do it, its fine, like the software is free, fantastic, just wishlist, its way better than any pvr software out there, i hate mythtv, media portal is alright but the xmltv isnt as good, and slower and it can be annoying, gbpvr is fast, reliable and it has the ability to be very pretty, the whole tranparent thing is cool, i love that.

if settings never gets implemented thats cool, still wud love the my thingy, that seems to work nicely, ties things together

oh just so we're clear i love gbpvr [Image: biggrin.gif]

The good thing is, all the settings are easily modified in the text file config.xml, so if any developers feel compelled to have certain settings available from within the GB-PVR interface, they can easily write a plugin to update this file.

Some of the settings are already dynamic, but if someone goes to implement a plugin that changes settings etc, then I'm happy do make the rest of GB-PVR dynamically re-read settings if they change.

ok im going to try and start developing this plugin, havent done a plugin yet so be interesting, have to figure out the code. if anyone has suggestions to for things to add to the settings let me know, can only think of a few skins, plugins, plugins settings, can do others as gbpvr is improved, like video aspect ratio, widescreen (i really really want this, mentioned it a bit [Image: smile.gif])
