I use GB-PVR just for the skin/additional plugins for MVP (absolutely fantastic work guys) but don't need the recording service - (takes approx 30MB of ram) as I don't have a PVR!

Any chance of having the option of GBPVR.exe running as a service but disabling GBPVRRecordingService.exe.

I know it kinda defeats the object of this, but hey, If you don't ask...

Thanks.

The recording service doesn't have to record anything. This component is possibly badly named. Its also responsible for other things that you'd probably need, like:

- streaming net radio stations
- updating tv listings (which you might not be interested in)
- monitoring the MVP server instances, and restarting them when required.

If you really dont want to run the recording service, you can disable it in the Windows Services control panel. This would mean no net radio, and you have to roll your own MVP service by downloading one of the utilities that let you any windows program as a service (GBPVR.exe -mvpmode). This would work, but you'd lose the nice MVP cleanup/restart functionality you get with the Recording Service.

Thanks sub for the reply - and for clearing up what the modules do.

I was disabling the recording service and using the srvany.exe on GBPVR.exe before it was incoroprated into the single service. Its much nicer now of course! [Image: biggrin.gif]

But (and I am probably wrong) I seemed remember being able to use net radio with the recording service disabled and just running gbpvr.exe. Am I mistaken?

Yes, you're mistaken. It needs the recording service to be running at the start of net radio streaming.
