sgilani Wrote:Just posted a new build... with IE support! Smile For now I haven't put in the option to use WMP, because I really think mp4v and mp4a is the way to go. As Spartan rightfully points out, WMV2 and MP3 just doesn't give you the same quality.

See if you're able to use the embedded VLC player now in IE. It should also still work in Firefox as it always has.

Next thing on the agenda is most likely the issue with deleted / pending recordings erroneously showing up in the list.. but as always feel free to give feedback if there's something else not working or something like that.

Working for me internally and externally....still can't get it to work at my office though.....if I start it at the office and look at the vlc process on the host it is active but gets 0 cpu time. I can access it externally elsware but for some reason I get this behavoir when accessing it from work.

At least, i get continuous video.

For some reason I do not get Audio.

I have WMV2 for videocodec. MP3 for Audio and ASF for mux.

Are these settings Case Sensitive ?

The reason I ask is that when I put mp3 instead of MP3, I get and audio stream, no video. When I change it to MP3, I get just Video.

This is looking better as it comes along.

Great Work

Trying a bit more, I used IE instead of Firefox, and used the external application .

It fired VLC properly and was able to stream at 256 both sound and video with
WVM3 as video and mp3 as audio.

I kind of like the external player better as it allows resizing easier than the internal VLC player.

Well it's still not working for me whatsoever. VLC still starts up on the server but nothing either by loading VLC manually, loading the .vlc, from IE or firefox with the plug in.

It's not a networking issue as I can quite happily run VLC manually at both ends successfully.

Would it be possible to add an option say via the xml config to run VLC visibly so that I can check the stream info? Right now, all I can see is that it's loaded in the process list. I can watch the network traffic in ethereal and all that occurs is a TCP session establishment and a connection to VLC then nothing.

At the client end, in the debug window all it says is "nothing to play". It's as if the server end isn't receiving the filename?

David.

djtaylor,

I was having the same issue as you. I downloaded the latest VLC build and reinstalled it on the server side. Things instantly started working for me. May be worth a try.

Latest would appear to be 0.8.4a which is what I already have. I'd like the command line that's sent really, so that I can see if that works and watch the debug messages at the same time.

yeah that's the version I have as well. Not sure if this was the problem at hand. All I know is I removed the old version reinstalled after a reboot and it's now working. My problem just sounded real similar to yours so thought it was worth mentionning.

Download process explorer from sysinernals.com to see the VLC command line. This is what I used to figure out my best settings:

i quickly slapped in some code to throw out the vlc commandline that gets launched.. just d/l the zip from the first post and view the source of the player window and look towards the bottom for <!-- VLC COMMANDLINE .... -->

I promise next time around you'll have more control over VLC settings Smile

Well, whatever else you did, it now works anyway. Smile

Thanks
David.
