PVR-150 Help

My system is as follows:

WinXP SP2
AMD 1400 mhz Processor
VIA Chipset (4-in-1 drivers installed)
Hauppauge PVR-150 (with IrBlaster and 45 button Remote)
DirecTV Satellite Receiver
SB Live! Sound Card


I am experiencing very scratchy sounding audio with both live TV and recordings. I've searched the forum for what might be the best driver for the PVR-150 and have heard conflicting results. I tried the driver that came with the cd (normally a no-no but read in the forum that the "Orange CD" had good drivers). I also tried the Amity Pre-Release drivers. Neither one made much of a difference as far as I could tell.

PVR-150 users, whuch drivers do you believe would be the best for my system?

The audio gain patches will work in all drivers. The only difference is that drivers between 23074 and 24027 have their maximum levels limited to -6dB. In other words, in order to avoid distortion you'll probably need to set the gain even lower (say -3dB gives no distortion in 23074 and 24027, it would do in 23172 and you'd have to use -6dB, if this makes sense).

The actual gain setting that you need to use depends on your specific equipment.

One Question:
Is your Mainboard based on the VIA KT-133 (A)/(E) Chipset?

Sorry, I'm not really sure. My MB is an Abit KG7 if that helps you at all. In the manual it says it has an AMD761 chipset. The board is quite a few years old.

I have a new problem but it's probably not related to the PVR-150. When I schedule a recording it will not record until I restart the recording service. Is it possible that GBPVR MUST be re-installed after changing PVR drivers?

I could see, that your MoBo has the legendary VIA 686B Southbridge which was very buggy. DMA Mode on Secondary IDE-Port was faulty and made corruptions. Especially in combination with SoundBlaster Live! / Audigy Cards (!)

I recommend you to change the Mainboard to another chipset.

Your new problem: No, normally it's not necessary to reinstall gbpvr. I think more that it has to do with the right recognization with this Mainboard.
