Currently only png images can be used for the images on the main menu. Could you possibly allow for the use of gif's aswell - so the program looked for task.png and, if it couldn't be found then looked for task.gif. The reason I'd like this change is so I can use animated gif's in a skin. When I talk about animated gif's I'm talking high quality - not the shabby little things you see on some noobish sites. Ideas include the image for live tv having a tv with static in the background slowly staticing away. etc..

I realise there is MNP and APNG, but neither of these are supported well at all so don't think that would be a good way to go and that's why I'm asking for gif instead of that. The use of flash would also be good, but, I presume, harder from a coding point of view (I only know VB so that really is just a guess).

Even if it looked for images with the gif extension, it wouldn't show any animation. Applications have to explicitly code support for animations, and you wont get that for free just by using animated gif files. You'd only get the first frame show.

Would it be hard to add? I was wondering whether you could have your background images animated - so that the colour of the background could change (in a very subtle way) after say 3 mins and help prevent burn in?

As well as that, some nice animations like Fini suggests.

Animation have come up in discussions in the past. I wont be implementing support for animations. It would require a large amount of effort to implement in away that compatible with the MVP/XCard/PVR350/PC, and not really worth it in my opinion. Sorry.

what about having multiple .png files with name like task_01.png task_02.png and just cycle thru them? or would this be to slow?

If the menus are a kind of overlay, couldn't you use an mpeg2 video as background? but, that could make problems with the non transparent OSD on the PVR-350...hmm...

You'd probably still be able to find some very early posts in the forums on this subject. We did try this a long long time ago. It looked pretty but caused a few problems on the PVR350. I may look into it again in the future.

It wouldnt work well with the MVP. The MVP is as responsive as a snail when its playing video.

Why not just add a screen saver like most DVD players?

Thanks,
Paul
