I use logmein.com......
it's free, works over the net...using it for maintenance of GBPVR box, otherwise I have to drag a 30lb monitor up a flight of stairs and set it on the living room coffee table.

Does anyone use these "vnc" programs on a wireless setup? If you do, can you playback video in gbpvr? I try and all I get is what looks like a slideshow. Thanks for all the help and advice.

I can't view any movies at all over vnc, not even on a wired connection. That's not what those programs are made for.

*agrees with Stephan*

VNC doesn't work in a way that makes it good for watching video remotely. Wired or wireless, it's not a network bandwidth issue. The way VNC detects and transmits screen changes just isn't effective with a screen that is updated as much as one playing a video.

Thank you...thank you...thank you. I'm glad that's the answer. At least I know my "stuff" ain't broke.Smile Just a quick wireless question (just got it a day or two ago...newbie) what would be a good signal strength? I have linksys wrt54gs and wmp54gs. The best I see is about 70%. The devices are about 75ft apart. Thanks again for the great helpWink

Actually anything down to probably 25% is good for signal strength. What's more important is how much noise and connection quality. You can have 90% signal strength and so much damn noise surrounding you that it isn't usable.

I had an issue where my wireless network just really sucked. I browsed the visible SSIDs in my neighborhood. Found out that 5 of the 10 wireless networks I could see were all using channel 5! I changed to a different channel and it's been flawless since.
