okies I have tried the intervideo the nero I already had installed and well a cyberlink video decoder,
Cyberlink/sp seems better(hardware acceleration is on), but osd don't work during playback of recordings
intervideo and nero just dun do as good nero is actually crappy.
Just installed the omega drivers for my 9800 xt
Also other hardware: xp 2600-m at 2300 mhz (xp 3400) 2 120 gb seagate 7200 drives in sata raid-0. 1 gb of xms3500 memory, and hauppauge 150 no fm
What do you guys think I need (codecs etc.) I'm running win xp pro

If you google for "Cyberlink EnableVMR9" you should find some registry settings which will let Cyberlink work correctly with VMR9.

Sorry I dont know. Its not my software doing that.

If you zip and attach your logs I'll see if any other directshow filters are forcing themselves to be used.

It seems you have more than enough hardware for the job. Are you just optimizing for optimizings-sake, or are you experiencing bad performance? It's kind of surprising you're getting crappy results from Nero. Myself and others have had very good results with their decoder.

Btw, the ATI-optimized version of the Cyberlink decoders will probably give you the best performance, but with the muscle your machine has, you should get decent performance with any decoder you try. If not, you probably have something else going on with your machine.

I'd make sure you've got DMA enabled on your hard drive controllers and that you don't have too many devices sharing the same IRQ, especially your video and sound card.

ATI-optimized decoders came with my Radeon 9200's CD, and I've since updated it with one of the downloads from their website. Gbpvr recognizes the ATI version and lists it as "CyberLink Decoder (ATI)", or something like that.

I'm not using these anymore as I switched to a beefier machine with an NVidia 6200, but when I did use them on my 1.1 GHz Celeron, they gave me lower CPU utilization than anything else I tried.
