I have a pvr 150 MCE kit (the one with the included remote and blaster). I am using regular windows XP. I have gone through the whole guide for using HIP and hipsend but I am still unable to get the blaster to change the channel on my directv box. Can anyone help?

Could you give a bit more info on how far youve got?

After you have taught HIP your remotes commands, are you able to send a test signal and change channels on the STB?

I have gone through the whole process without success. Then I deleted everything and tried again. I am able to teach the commands, but when i click test IR the computer makes a beep but does nothing on the stb.

I had the same kit. I brought it back because I liked the Microsoft MCE remote better than then Hauppauge MCE remote. Actually it was more the beanbag I liked more.

Anyway when I did get my Hauppauge MCE remote working it was after I switched the IR blaster from port 1 to port 2 on the Bean bag. I think Port 1 was actually damaged, (straight out of the box).

I discovered while I was using the test blaster program whithin HIP. I swapped blaster ports on the fly and voila.

I guess what I'm saying is: don't discount the possiblitlity of hardware failure.

BTW, My Microsoft MCE remote is working great

would there be an easier way to change the channels on my directv (d10-200) stb without buying anything else? GBPVR changes the show description but the actual channel doesn't change.

I may have narrowed down the problem. When i hit the test ir button the light on the little thing that connects to the usb blaster (the thing i put over the ir sensor on the stb) does nothing. I would assume it should light up, but its not doing anything.

Ahhh Ive figured it all out. Thanks for the help everyone. Now y only problem is when i go into guide to change the channel on a 3 digit channel, only 2 register, then after the channel is changed, the third one registers. Say, if im trying to turn to 206, it changes the channel to 20, then to 6. Any help anyone?

try squeezing down the timings on the blaster.
If youve used hipsend, take a look right at the bottom of the HIPGuide page on the wiki, it has an explanation of how to set the speeds that the IR commands are transmitted.
Also, i dont know much about these directv boxes (in fact i know nothing! lol) but if they have their own on screen display which comes up when you change channel, see if you can disable it. Might have no effect but with my STB, it speeded things up a lot.

I can't really figure out how to change the speed. I read the whole guide but im confused at the bottom. I don't care about using the remote to change the channel, but i need gbpvr to be able to change channels to record scheduled shows.

by default HIPsend will seperate its commandss with a 500ms gap. you can change this by opening up the command prompt and navigating to where your copy of hipsend is stored and then setting a new speed.

SO using your example of channel 206 above:

at the command prompt, if you type 'HIPSend 206' then you should see the behaviour that you described above (channel 20, then 6) as you havnt changed the gap between the IR commands. this is basicly what GBPVR does when it sends a request for a new channel.

If you now type 'hipsend 206 400' it'll do the same thing but shorten the gaps between the gap between the signals being sent from 500ms to 400ms. if this is quick enough for your STB then it should change to 206, if not then try again using 'hipsend 206 300' which will shorten the gap down to 300ms.

Keep doing this till your box switches to channel 206, then close your command prompt. Once Hipsend has been set to the right speed, it will remember the speed and keep using it so you shouldnt have to do anything else other than go to GBPVR and try to change to a channel and see what happens.
