The main screens can be translated either in a language.xml file or, if text is in the skin, via the skin files. The language setting in the config app is only used for transalting the detailed forecast info.

I have posted an update on the wiki at last.

Here are the release notes:

2006–03–13 :
  • Added additional weather types to the mappings between text and icons
  • Updated to work with latest MSNBC web page
  • Note that this update uses a new version on the CommonGBPVRUtilities that should be backwards compatible with older versions, although it has only been lightly tested for this

If you downloaded the update between my first post and this post, you should download it again. I posted a bad version by mistake.

I like this plug in a lot, the only thing I'd like to ask for is a different choice of data or maps for the UK. To be honest the forecast is ok but the maps are limited as it covers the whole of Europe.

May I be so bold as to ask for data from the BBC website as an alternate for example:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/midlands/

The region could be stored to give the closest data.

Hi Jeff,

I had a problem with the new Weather update. I think its in CommonGBPVRUtils.dll.

Windows keeps throwing Out of Memory exceptions. I think this happens when I scroll to any button on the main menu where the plugin uses the dll. Note that I do not have to press the button, just scroll to it. Also I do have the VAPanel active on the main menu.

Rolled back both dlls. All's well.

Everyone loves this plugin, thanks for your efforts.

Could you look in your gbpvr.exe.log file and see what it has in there? I use the VA plug-in and panel on my home machine, which I think has the same configuration,, but then again I may have an updated video archive.dll. Mine is dated 1/16/2006 at 10:52PM.

Do you know of an automated way to map from the city codes used by msnbc weather and weather.com to the regions show by the BBC? If I do this I'd like too be able to look things up on the fly.

I'm at work now and will probably be working late, but as soon as I can, I will.

Two problems with this new update:

1. If I make a change in settings in config file, restart, the temperature reverts back to fahrenheit, altho it says celsius. I have to reboot computer to get it to show celsius.

2. It is 11:09am now, the temp shown says "As of 10:00 AM Local Time". I have it set to update every 15 minutes. Is there anyway to get updates sooner? This is not a new problem but same with previous version.

TIA.

Well yes and no.

In this URL http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=1632 the id= is the town so that would be fairly easy to have a mapping so that in your config, the radio button says where you want to get the data from either msnbc or bbc and it's up to the user to enter the right stuff.

For the maps, there isn't as much variety as the BBC just offers a number of regions. I think that would be best handled by an interface option that again allowed the choice of map source/region.

As I said, the problem is that there's just no detail in the UK satellite image from weather.com, at best there's one temperature covering 4 countries and even then it's in farenheit.

But hey, if you don't bother with any of this, no problem but thanks for listening Smile

David.
