I have a decoder STB that I use an IR blaster with. I turn it off when I don't use it because it can get pretty hot.

Is there a way to tell if its off? i.e blank video for a couple seconds...and then send a POWER signal through the IR blaster to turn it on.

btw, I am using Now Broadband in HK. There are no discrete on/off signals on the remote.

Any ideas?

I don't know if it helps but on my my STB (UK Sky Digibox) there is not only a remote signal that does a power toggle on/off but also another that just turns the box on (though is is designated more as a sort of "exit all menus and reset back to picture button"). The latter is called a Sky button and I use this with GBPVRWAKE and the commandline to send this signal when coming out of standby - making sure the box is on whether it was on/off beforehand.
