blader_se : I am getting the same thing, but mine is on a different system at work than home. At home I don't get it. Only difference is at home I have a DVD+RW drive. I think it has something to do with encoding/decoding.

I get the overflow error occasionally, too. Not all the time, but every once in a while. I'll look and see if I can locate the bug.

Quote:Create a viable STB box that isn't a full size PC. Just my nature to hack like this

It's not the features that drive me, it's the ability to create a married system both client/server. The future of home entertainment will be a centralized system (server) that feeds STB's (client) via a wired/wireless network. Why would I want to put a PC next to every TV when I can just run RG56?
Thats pretty much what you get today with GB-PVR with the MVP at the moment: Small slient cheap boxes connected via UTP that sit next to various TVs around your home, giving you this client/server centralized media solution. Have you tried GB-PVR with an Hauppauge MediaMVP? It already does all this today.

Quote:Point being if I can do this type of setup, I can take a unit anywhere (garage, deck, etc) and have my media. In addition, just like VoIP, if I have my system set correctly, I should be able to take my STB to a friends house, or a hotel room with broadband and connect it up so I can watch my programming and/or local TV no matter where I am.
OK, taking an MVP outside the home is probably a bit different than what you can currently do. I'm not sure what the bandwidth requirements would be to do something like this.

It all depends on the transcoding. 2 years ago, using VLC, I was able to stream Van Wilder DVD 30 miles across a wi-fi link (no wires between systems) at 30fps, full screen with no latency at 512kbps. It can be done...just look at orb.com. Of course you would have to have broadband at both ends, but it is doable.

Back up Jackson...are you telling me a stock MVP out of the box will load gb-pvr?! Well then, so much the better!

Yes, as hondo is indicated, GB-PVR already does this. You get the full GB-PVR user interface and all its features on the tv via the MVP - viewing the tv guide, scheduling recording, playing recordings, watching tv etc...

The screen shots at http://www.gbpvr.com/screenshots.htm is exactly the sort of screens you'll see via your MVP.

I put a new version out here with the source and the binary. To run it, you should just have to unzip and go to the MVPViewerSetup\Support folder and run MVPViewer2.exe. This way, you don't have to install the program.

The two things I changed were turning on the deinterlacing for the video, and my attempt at the menu overlay. To see the overlay, start a video and press the b (Blue) key while the video is running.

I'm still looking into other problems (i.e. overflow error, object not set error, etc).

It should. I ran it from the MVPViewerSetup\Support folder on my Windows 2000 machine, and it seems to work that same as my Windows XP machine.

Thanks - I hate using installer programs when a simple zip will do.

On another note, what advantage do you see this project having over using another instance of GB-PVR, as described here: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/PCClient ? One thing cool about MythTV is the explicit backend/frontend separation. GB-PVR doesn't seem to have this as explicitly, but it seems that some people have had good success with this method. That being said, keep up the good work - I think it's an interesting project.
