I'm bored.

Dammed if I haven't painted myself into a corner.

The last 6 months since I discovered GBPVR have been a blast. I have gone from nothing - to a world of digital capture and storage of everything.

And now it all works ...and is wonderful ....how did I ever live without it ... but I find myself wondering what's next......

Sure I could keep tinkering, use some more features, other plugins, play a bit more with filters. 'Fine tuning' guess. This I would love to do.

But here is the 'paint in the corner bit' - I am no longer allowed to play with this PC - because down time will not be tolerated! Whenever I do Wife accuses 'what have you stuffed up?'

Maybe I need to start again and build another PVR? (FUN )

But then there is the "....well how much would that cost?" and "What's wrong with this one?"

Dammed if this wasn't my hobby and its been shut down. I'm bored.

i think you need to develop a "problem" or some ort of hardware incompatibility where you have to buy a new piece of kit to install.

You know, my wife admitted last night that she doesn't know how she ever lived without "TiVo" last night. Translation: "Any money you want to spend to support her new favorite toy is perfectly acceptable."

I, too, found myself "bored" once I mastered building a PVR. In fact, I force myself to rebuild the darned thing over and over just so I can continue playing around with it! (O.K. maybe force isn't the correct word.)

Fortunately, I have the luxury of a wife who understands that downtime is a necessary evil. Plus, television isn't the only thing in her life so there's plenty more for her to do while I'm tinkering. I think I am going to write my own "how-to build a pvr" during my next "rebuild." I'm going to include all of the known tweaks and workarounds. That way, if I am ever hit by a bus and the PVR breaks, even the wife could rebuild it!

I have a few new toys, and now need to figure out how to rebuild the system before the next recording this afternoon. Part of the equation is a new hard drive, so I am keeping the old one ready to be put back in at a moments notice.

Wannabe... I understand. As extensions to your functionality, do you have dynamic DNS running and UltraVNC (or PC Anywhere, etc.) running so you can manage your PVR from the public Internet? Have you set up a free monitor (I use Bello) to make sure it is up and reachable? Just some things I did to extend myself once I had the whole thing working from inside the house.

I actually just logged in from work and set mine up to record a few shows.

If you've got that done, time to start bragging to your friends about how great your PVR is and offering to build one for them. : )
