Just to say thanks again to you two guys for this. I've also discovered that as text files are used I can also update the text file my ImonSmartie solution uses to post a message that stays on the VFD when it is in standby - i.e. when in standby my VFD displays what (& when) will be recorded next.
I also use GBPVRwake to update the pending file when the machine wakes up in situations other than a recording (e.g. EPG update).
Cheers

Hi,

When I try to run this to collect pending recordings, the CLI runs, and outputs to the screen using the tokens I have selected - but then at the end I get "GBPVRcli.exe has caused an error...blah blah blah"

I took a look at the log files, and there were no error lines in there. The last line in the log was talking about flushing stale recordings.

Any ideas on whats happening here?

Actually - maybe it's because I dont have an original pending.txt (?) and it's trying to flush from something that doesnt exist?

Also, do I have to specifiy an output filename in the command line?

Thanks

@Jonnycam:

I had the same problem, i think, and it had to do with gbpvr not being able to recognize some unconventional characters in the database. Post copies of all the gbpvr log files for whenever you ran gbpvrcli, and maybe i can figure out what the problem is.

As for the output: yes, you do need to specify a way to output the information, otherwise it will just display it on the command line. If you add ">pending.txt" to the end of your gbpvrcli command, the information will be written to the text file instead of being written to the command line.

What command line are you using and how many pending recordings should there been at that time?

The flushing stale recordings mentioned in the log file is part of GBPVR and almost certainly not related to the crash.

Are you looking at the log file "GBPVRcli.error.log"? In any case, the fact that you have seen the Microsoft Error Reporting message indicates that the crash is unhandled by GBPVRcli and the cause probably won't be in a log file. The only way to determine what happened is for me to try and recreate the effect here.

For help on how to use the GBPVRcli command, see the documentation that is installed alongside it and available from the GB-PVR->Documentation->Slimm GB-PVR entry in your start menu. This should help if it is a syntax problem and also explains how to send the output to a text file.

any way you could add what's vieing in live-tv mode or timeshift?
for me the recording status plugin works great and is simpler, but also no live tv info.. would love it if the cli could return current channel program info...can't find anything else that will output this..Sad
i just have recstatus spit out only the text i want to display, and point Smartie at it...

also seemed i couldn't access the database while the lcd plugin was installed...net complaining about providing access to more than one user through that interface..[apparently it accesses db same way]
so i couldn't use this plugin for second line with smartie plugin! Sad
recordingstatus works just fine tho...hmm..
[and i don't even start the tray app]
any help on the current status is GREatly appreciated..
[and hopefully can make it compatible with smartie plugin too Smile]
thanx

Not at this time. Both SlimmGBPVR and GBPVRcli were designed to provide information when GBPVR is not loaded. This is because I only use GBPVR's recording service and GBPVR only to set up recordings. Therefore, in my case, GBPVR generally isn't loaded and no GBPVR, no plugins. If you have GBPVR loaded all the time, try and use a plugin as that receives more information about what is going on whereas my utilities try and work out what is going on from the status of the database.

Erm, was this a message about TCP channel? Both of my utilities generally ask GBPVR for information using the public methods provided in GBPVR.Public and GBPVRBackendCommon. The TCP channel message comes from them, I don't have any network protocol expertise to surmise why or offer a solution.

I am slowly working on another project at the moment but I shall look into providing LiveTV / Timeshift information. No promises though. As to cross-compatibility, I suspect that that may work out if you don't use both to perform a task at the same time. For instance, if both are trying to do something when a recording starts. I shall take another look at the Smartie plugin. (I couldn't get it work last time I tried but that was a few weeks ago.) Thanks for your feedback.

i found out the idiosyncracies of the smartie plugin recently...seems you have to start the recording service After the smartie is loaded or it won't find the proper gbpvr communication channel to watch and look like it's just sitting there..
so i made a batch to start smartie that calls stop.bat, then starts smartie and waits a few secs, then restarts rec service with restart.bat...[only needed at bootup. after that it will always have info if the gbpvr window is up..]
thanx for the reply...i should have some source to play with soon, so i can get the smartie plugin to display this info and may have it solved soon myself...
i do like the recording info you provide, i use that on my second line...

with a few plugins for smartie i found, i already have cpu histogram bar graphs, volume indicators,space/mem free etc showing all the time..
just finished stuffing my P4 into a Sony vcr and the lcd is even the same color and size as the original! so it looks rad! Smile love the lcd cuz it allows me see what's playing with music, etc without even turning on the tv..Big Grin
i use GBPVR for all my watching so it's almost always on..
[even when not watching..lol]
oh and don't worry about the compatibility...i fear it's not solvable as really the smartie plugin seems to be the problem i think...[still have to check if it conflicts with anything else..like EWA]
thanx for the info tho..
