Sub:

I've been playing with comskip for the last couple of weeks and I've got it down to where it almost always right on the commercials. It generates the text file and most are right on where the breaks should be.

I have the auto skip checked in config, I'm running it from a post processing bat file.

While watching a recording sometimes it will just skip ahead like i think it should (skipping over the marked breaks) and other times it needs me to do the 0+skip thing manually

Is there something that GBpvr looks for to do the auto skip? Is there something i could tweak a bit to get it to auto skip? Maybe a config setting or something.. I just don't understand why sometimes it auto skips and sometimes not even though the text file has marked what to skip over.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

It just reads in the text file of commercial locations, and when it determines its within one of the specified ranges, it jumps to the end of the range. If you press the blue button (Ctrl-B), it should show you dark green patches in the time line where it it thinks the ads are.

Its worth noting that GB-PVR will only try to auto skip a commercial once, so you cant jump back to watch it happen again.

Sub, is there a way to disable the auto skip in a section if it goes to the end of the file? Sometimes I will have a show with the end of it marked as a commercial. The only way to watch it is to skip into and and skip back instantly, and hope it takes. I really like the auto skip for the most part, but it can be a pain when the end if marked like that.

No, there isnt currently any GB-PVR way to do this. Your only option is to disable the auto skip and do it manually.

I have used the blue button at times to check on the progress. That's why i was asking if there was something specific that GBpvr looks for. I've often found myself watching a commercial without realizing it. Pressed the blue button just to see where i was and and found i was right in the middle of a commercial block. Other times it runs through flawlessly and nary a commercial is seen anywhere.

Not positive but i swear i read in the doc's of one of the newer versions that there is a ini setting that will let you do that.

Do you mean the ini for comskip? I'll have to look. Thanks!

I have to do this all the time. Although GBPVR will show the commercial breaks on the timeline (blue button), it will not skip over them until I do the "skip thing" or stop and resume the recording. After I do that, all is well.

By the way, I'm doing my viewing on a MediaMVP.

I also only use GBpvr with the MVP for viewing. Like you using the blue button shows that the commercials are identified correctly. I was just wondering what it was that GBpvr looks for to auto skip, and if there was something i could tweak to help it along. Sometimes it works, other times not.

I read you are watching recordings and not timeshifting so this is not relevant for you but:
Do keep in mind that during timeshift watching while comskip is in live_tv=1 mode the .txt file with the commercial info is rewritten often
I am not sure how GBPVR is reacting to the file appearing and disappearing every x seconds.
Could it be possible, in such a case, that gbpvr and comskip are "out of sync" so GBPVR reads an empty .txt file?
If needed I could change comskip it only writes the new .txt file when new commercials are found.
