i like the idea, but if you want to make it truly kiwi, it should be black and silver (our national colours, mostly black).

all our sports teams are called "black" something eg
all blacks
black caps
black socks

kiwi as in bird - none that i know of
kiwi as people = probably sound of a can of beer opening

I've tried darker (brown) but there usually isn't enough contrast with the background.

I'm an old programmer so by definition I'm artistically challenged. What I do is borrow someone elses image, drop it into PhotoShop and push a few buttons.
