My Palm Vx finally died and I'm going to buy a Palm TX to replace it. I've noticed that there's some software available to turn the Palm into a remote and wondering if anybody has done this. Looking to control the MediaMVP, Sony TV's, Sony DVD players, and Sony camera through it's docking station. Any info will be appreciated!

My brother used to use his palm to control TV's in bars and restaurants. Not sure if they can learn keys but the software is pretty flexable from what he says.

Not sure what OS Palms use but I saw something that could be run on Windows CE handhelds which would control anything that you had the codes for. Google for it - it was a while ago so I can't remember where I saw it.

gomjabar,

Can you find out what app he was using? Googling around I found some from Novii that looks interesting.

I've been using a remote app on a palm for a couple of years now. It works very well. Called OmniRemote website at http://www.pacificneotek.com/omniProfsw.htm

That said the palm and this software do a fine job however the palms IR port is a very narrow beam, so you must aim it at the IR receivers, and of course being a touch screen it doesn't lend itself well to flopping on the couch and pressing buttons by feel. Smile

although having omniremote just installed on my palm (a sony clié, actually) reduced the battery life from 4 weeks to about 2 days...
So make sure you sync before you try out omniremote Smile
