When I manually run comclean2 on an mpeg2 file, when cuttermaran comes up it tells me it cannot find the video_file_name.cpf file. The files generated by comskip are .cvs

What gives? Is there some kind of setting I need to alter?

In your comskip.ini file make sure you have the following line to generate the .cpf file.

output_cuttermaran=1

I didn't have much luck with this approach though, as cuttermaran didn't seem to find the file to clean, so never produced an output file.

I have had much better luck with the retime utility.

Yes, this needs to be set.

Comclean2 is working well for me. I'm getting nice clean timeline output files from it.

ww4397,

What version of cuttermaran are you using?

I have 1.65. It sees the .cpf file, but does nothing with it. I do not get a cleaned output file from it.

I'm also using v1.65.

Cuttermaran is only part of the overall sequence. Your .mpg file must first be demuxed into the video (.m2v) and audio (.mp2) files. Cuttermaran will do its work using these two files getting its cutting instructions from your .cpf file. When it is finished, Cuttermaran will output two "clean" files. These files must be muxed together to form your final "clean" .mpg file.

I believe the Comclean2 package includes the demux and mux utilities that are needed.

Yes, I have installed the comclean2 package as well as cuttermaran. I watch the batch file execute and have the task manager open. I redirect my console output from comclean2.bat > comclean.log.

The log file clearly shows the .cpf file being passed to cuttermaran, but cuttermaran runs for several seconds before exiting without generating _clean files. The rest of comclean2.bat fails without the _clean files from cuttermaran. Sad

Could you post the involved files?
the .cpf file and the log file of running comclean2

OK, I have attached the .cpf file and the log file of comclean2 activity. I can watch it generate the .m2v and .mp2 files. Cuttermaran does load (visible in Task Manager) for maybe 10 seconds but then exits. The .m2v and .mp2 files are then deleted by comclean2.bat and that is pretty much were things end.

Oh, I can start cuttermaran in gui mode, but I have not tried to edit any files with it. It appears to be installed and working.

I don't see anything obviously wrong.

Could you edit the cpf file and remove the line
<CmdArgs OutFile="C:\MyVideos\Farscape\Farscape_20051105_14001500_clean" cut="true" unattended="true" snapToCutPoints="true" closeApp="true" />
and then again run comclean2?

This should start cuttermaran in normal GUI mode.
You should be able to review the cutlist and manually select an output file and run cuttermaran to create the output file.
