Hi

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, sorry if it isn't.

Anyway, been using GBPVR for a couple of weeks now and I think its great. I've been using a Hauppauge Nova-t 90002 to watch TV and that works pretty well. Today I bought another Nova-t because they were being sold half price.

So I stuck this in my computer, but now I can't figure out how to get this setup.
Upon rebooting windows I got no new hardware detection message, and looking under the hardware settings shows one card working fine. So I fiddled around trying to get 2 working in GBPVR anyway, which didn't work, but made me realise that the new card seems to be being used instead of the old one for watching live Tv / recordings.

Anyway, looking round the forums I've found a few posts about using more than 1 tuner, but havn't figured much out yet.

My question is, should 2 cards show up in windows hardware profile? If so, then what could be wrong? If not, then how do I go about setting up 2 cards in GB-PVR?

Other info which might help. I did try setting up 2 sources in GB-PVR, tried setting both as device 1, then one as 1 the other as 2. I testing by watching live tv on my computer and then trying to watch live tv on my MVP.(which brings up a message saying no tuners are available). I'm using Windows XP and both cards are Nova-T 90002.

Thanks in advance for any help.

In Device Manager, you should see two sets of drivers. Also make sure that you are using the same driver version for both cards (it's probably worth using hcwclear to remove the existing drivers and then install both together).

In Device Manager you should see two lots of everything (DVB-T+IR, DVB-T Tuner/Demod, IR Decoder and TS Capture).

What version of the Nova-t drivers are you using? Have you tried HCWCLEAR and then a reboot?

They need to be device 1 and 2 (doesn't matter which is which) but if you don't see duplicate entries in Device Manager then setting two sources won't work anyway.

Thanks for speedy replies. I shall try removing the drivers as you both said and do a full reinstall. Thanks for confirming that there needs to be 2 showing in device manager. Saved me a lot of time trying to get a card working that windows dosn't even know is there!

Not sure what version the drivers are I have, I belive they are the latest that can be downloaded from hauppauges site.

OK. I was just wondering if you were using the ones from the CD in the box. I bought a new Nova-t recently and the version was still v1.3 on the CD. That version didn't support dual tuners. If you pulled them from the Hauppauge site recently, that shouldn't be the problem.

Cheers,
Brian

Ok, I have downloaded the the latest from their site just to be sure.

I have just uninstalled the card from device manager, then run hcwclear, rebooted and had one card redected and installed the new drivers for this, but still only one card. Any ideas? I'll try removing the cards tommorow maybe and putting them in different pci slots maybe.

Thanks for the help, If you have any other ideas let me know. Thanks again.

There are always two parts to getting a card to work: hardware and software. You need to know if the new card works, so have you tried unplugging the old one? Install the new one by itself and get it working.
If there are other PCI cards, like sound cards, and modems, or network cards. remove them as well if the card wont function.
There is something you need to know about PCI slots. They are numbered - 1 to 5. (or however many you have)
If you use an AGP card, try not to use PCI slot #1 because it shares the IRQ (interupt) with the agp slot. Only use cards that dont need an IRQ in that slot, and as long as it doesnt block the vid card fan.
When a computer turns on, it loads the bioses from the cards in the slot order. So, it loads pci card #1, then #2, then #3, etc.
Most cards these days will live fine with other cards, and can even share IRQs.
However, their bioses arent always that flexible. Sometimes, certain cards want to load into certain memory locations, and if another card has already grabbed that location, the card wont function.
To fix this, all you have to do is swap the cards around so that a problem card is loading first by placing it in a lower slot number (from slot 4 to slot 2, for instance)
If you can get the card to work, add the other cards back one at a time until its all working..

Thanks for your help everyone. Took the cards out today, moved one up to another PCI slot and rebooted. Fiddled with a couple of bios settings(don't know if they changed much) and windows then detected both the cards.

Everything seems to be working fine now after setting up the new card as device 2. Although the EPG didn't seem to want to update, but it still works since the other device has all the guide info.

Anyway, thanks once again for the help.
