I have gone through the wireless route for connecting MVP to my GBPVR Server, but have never been satisfied with the results. Dropped connections continue to frustrate me, so was wondering if any of you have had experience with using the new 85Mbps Homeplug network devices, especially with the MVP. It seems that these new devices may be just the ticket where wireless just doesn't seem to cut it.
Regards,
Hasso

Since just recently, I've been using a couple of these devices 85Mbps devices. It seems to work well so far. You get nothing like 85Mbps, but it'll most likely perform better than wireless for you.

I have some on order. They are going to get here in the 1st or second week of January. If you want to hold on, I'll review them and report back.

Yuss, Great.. look forward to your review. I was planning to wait until Jan. anyway before ordering.
Sub, where in NZ can you get them (and which did you use)? I was looking for a source, and the UK seemed the best bet (73 GBP plus 15 GBP shipping)

Toshiba is working on a 200Mbps homeplug system I know they have the chip working and it has a tcpip stack built in so you can use SNMP to manage it but I have no idea when it will be readdy.

I am very curious about the bitrate people experience.
For video streaming you need a reliable throughput.
Any experience out there of what is achievable?

I've not done specific test over it, but its working reliably with my MVP playing video.

I did read some test results before I bought it that indicated you'd get sustained data transfer rates of about 25-30Mbps. This is nothing like the 85Mbps it's marketed at, but fast enough for the task I needed it for. If you intend to have several of these running at the same time, you may not be as lucky.

So far, so bad.
I've had these devices for about a week now. Music plays well, video is too choppy to watch. The utility that comes with the devices shows a throughput of 35MB. This should have been fast enough for video (I record using high quality), but it's not. I think that they are very susceptible to interference. I had one of the devices on one power outlet, and it showed a throughput of 1.5MB, moving it to another bumped it up to 35.
Also, I cannot see both devices using the utility. I've contacted Netgear support but have not heard back from them yet. It's possible that I have other issues that are interfering with the video playback.
The saga continues.
