Hi

Am very new to c# and am experimenting with GBPVR plugins. Have followed instruction in wiki and have built the simple "hello world app" - just to get me started.

I can build the simple plugin with no errors. When I place the plugin.dll file in the GBPVR plugins directory then I get an error complaining of a missing (unspecified) resource file when I attempt to run the configuration app.

GBPVR is 95.16.

C# is latest download from microsoft C# express 2005.
.Net 2.0 was installed by the app about a week ago and is version 2.0.50727

I have read that others on the forum have had similar problem but they were using .net 1.1 some time ago.

How can I fix this?

I would not be surprised if there is a setting in the c# ide that I have not set etc.

Help would be appreciated.

GB-PVR is using .net v1.1, and plugins must also use this. Microsoft C# express 2005 edition is only able to make .net 2.0 assemblies. I'm pretty sure this will be the cause of your problem.

That explains it then. Many thanks.

What app should be used to make compatible plugins?

You can use either Sharp Develop or Borland C# Personal edition.

Many thanks KingArgyle

Will look into obtaining them tomorrow.

Pity as I was getting the hang of the free MS offering.

We will switch to .net 2.0 at some stage, but it'll probably be for the release after next.

Being still releatively new at .NET I'm wondering what the implcations would be. Would GB-PVR still support plugins developed with v1.1 (assuming both versions were installed on the machine)? Or would all plugins need to be recompiled for v2?

Cheers,

I'm not sure yet. I havnt installed it on my machine yet. If we're lucky, they'll still work. If not, then they'll need to be recompiled for v2.

Yes I was wondering that too.

I think I will leave plugin development until GBPVR supports .net 2.0. I can imagine numerous problems and information free error messages of the type:

"an unknown module has encountered an unspecified error owing to a resource mis-allocation in an unreferenced class - somewhere. Please reformat all machines on your network to correct the problem."

Or maybe I'm just being cynical :-)

Some information regarding forwards and backwards compatibility with .NET 2.0 and 1.1.
